Cultivating leadership for operational excellence in the field: The new Leadership, Orientation and Guidance for Operational Support (LOGOS) Programme #UNGSC is proud to host the #LOGOS Programme, a learning and development opportunity designed to strengthen operational leadership in support components of field missions. Through a blend of personalized coaching, virtual and in-person learning activities, and peer-based support, LOGOS aims to build the leadership capacities needed to navigate the complexities of field operations. Placing human-centered competencies and people-management abilities at the core, while applying systems thinking and exercising critical judgement in complex and dynamic operating environments, this 8-month programme is designed to nurture behaviours and shift mindsets to enable prospective Chiefs and Directors of Mission Support to lead with impact and drive operational excellence. UNGSC Service Chiefs Herbert Pechek and Jangar M. Richards, who participated in the course, shared their enthusiasm: "We welcome the opportunity to engage in the LOGOS Programme, which has allowed us to explore innovative problem-solving approaches and enhance our ability to respond to the evolving demands in the field." We congratulate all participants and trainers on this important initiative! UN Photo | Luca Nestola

Enhancing Peacekeeping Operations with Smart Technology #UNGSC was pleased to host a milestone Workshop at our Valencia Base, bringing together representatives from Member States, UN Field Missions, and United Nations Headquarters to advance the UN Smart Camp initiative. The Workshop highlighted Remote Infrastructure Monitoring (#FRIM), a core component of UN Smart Camp, which leverages Internet of Things (#IoT) technology to improve the efficiency and sustainability of UN peacekeeping operations. Currently, #FRIM applies to #UN owned equipment with over 38,000 data points and 8,100 infrastructure devices monitored across 21 UN entities and 12 Peacekeeping Missions. Successful pilots in missions like UNISFA, have demonstrated the effectiveness of this approach in minimizing power outages, optimizing fuel supply, and preventing infrastructure failures. The Workshop focused on extending the benefits of these technologies to Contingent-Owned Equipment (COE), which make up 51% of UN Camps. Discussions centered around automating data collection, improving operational efficiency, enhancing decision-making, and ensuring strong cybersecurity. Looking ahead, participants explored new opportunities for partnerships, pilot projects, training, and funding, as well as the creation of a Community of Practice to foster ongoing collaboration and innovation. UNGSC thanks all participants for their dedication to advancing the digital transformation of peacekeeping to enhance security, efficiency, and sustainability.
