Tiscali has launched #Villanova, an innovative project aimed at making #artificial #intelligence accessible to everyone, from small businesses to individuals, part of #IPCEI-CIS. The #IPCEI-CIS is the key digital initiative for Europe driven by more than 100 companies and research organizations from 12 EU Member States aiming to establish the first- ever “Multi-Provider Cloud-Edge Continuum”. The main objective is the creation of an entirely new decentralized environment, which will enable software infrastructure for the advanced use of data processing resources from Cloud to Edge. This novel open ecosystem operated by multiple providers will reduce technological dependencies as well as lock-in effects. Moreover, it will enable a whole new dimension of data-driven business models, e.g., AI- and IoT-related, for a broad L spectrum of domains and industries such as manufacturing, mobility, energy and tourism. During the course of the IPCEI Cloud projects, a total volume of several billion Euros will be invested.

The Council of the European Union has approved conclusions in response to a report by the European Court of Auditors (ECA), highlighting the need to strengthen the EU’s approach to artificial intelligence (AI). The aim is to consolidate Europe’s position as a global leader in the AI sector by ensuring targeted investments, effective governance, and an advanced digital infrastructure. The Court of Auditors emphasized the need for the EU to increase AI investments to compete on a global scale. The Council agreed on this point, stressing the importance of creating an ecosystem where innovation, research, and development can thrive, both at the national and European levels. A particular area of interest concerns digital infrastructures and the hardware supply chain. The Council reiterated that to support effective AI development, the EU must ensure a reliable supply of hardware and improve the energy efficiency of high-performance computing systems to reduce environmental impact. The Council considers cooperation with Member States and international organizations crucial. This collaboration is essential to maximize the impact of investments and to leverage synergies at both the European and global levels. Additionally, the Council calls on the European Commission to strengthen the flow of information to the Council and its preparatory bodies to enhance the EU’s strategic engagement in international forums. The Court of Auditors indicated the need to establish measurable objectives to assess the effectiveness of AI research and innovation (R&I) projects. The Council agreed but clarified that these indicators should not hinder the overall goals of the projects, avoiding added administrative burdens for beneficiaries and Member States. The report highlights that, if leveraged correctly, AI research outcomes can enhance European competitiveness. However, the Council draws attention to the need to balance performance monitoring with the flexibility required to foster innovation. The European Court of Auditors published a special report on May 29, 2024, regarding the EU’s ambition in AI, which analyzes the European Commission’s initiatives between 2018 and 2023. The report shows that the EU has made progress in funding R&I projects but notes a lack of effective tools for performance monitoring.

Il Parlamento Europeo compie un passo decisivo nell'uso dell'intelligenza artificiale per rendere più accessibili i suoi archivi storici grazie al nuovo servizio "Ask the EP Archives", noto anche come Archibot. Basato sulla tecnologia Claude di Anthropic e sviluppato su Amazon Bedrock, questo strumento innovativo consente di consultare oltre 2,1 milioni di documenti ufficiali, accessibili in più lingue in pochi secondi. È un cambiamento rivoluzionario rispetto al sistema precedente, che richiedeva accessi di persona o attraverso richieste via email. Ora, ricercatori, politici e cittadini possono accedere facilmente agli archivi da qualunque parte del mondo. Il potenziale di Archibot va ben oltre una semplice ricerca testuale: grazie a funzioni avanzate di riepilogo automatico, ricerca e creazione di report, offre un accesso rapido e preciso a informazioni legislative cruciali. I risultati ottenuti da Anthropic sono notevoli: il tempo di ricerca è stato ridotto dell’80%, la soddisfazione degli utenti è cresciuta del 58%, e il numero di ricerche gestite ogni mese è decuplicato.
