🌊APPROFONDIMENTO BLU & BUSINESS
Chi lavora nell’ambito della sostenibilità lo sa bene: negli ultimi mesi stiamo assistendo ad una vera e propria accelerazione nella produzione di norme e standard di riferimento a livello internazionale.
Non è semplice rimanere al passo e orientarsi in questo intrico di sigle, documenti e concetti, specialmente per chi è stato abituato a gestire un’impresa seguendo l’assunto per cui “ho sempre fatto così e ha sempre funzionato”. Questo approccio “Business as Usual” in tempi di rapidi cambiamenti come quelli attuali, rappresenta un rischio che va riconosciuto e superato, mettendosi in discussione e integrando nuove competenze e conoscenze.
Ed è anche per questo che noi di Sea the Change abbiamo deciso di dare vita a questa newsletter: per aggiornare chi ci segue, trasmettendo informazioni e conoscenze utili, con lo sguardo sempre rivolto, ovviamente, alla relazione tra queste evoluzioni e la tutela di mari, oceani ed ecosistemi marini.
Partiamo dalle basi: CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY DIRECTIVE
La CSRD rappresenta in realtà un elemento fondamentale che contribuisce alla trasformazione sostenibile delle imprese europee e delle loro catene di fornitura.
Un aspetto chiave della CSRD è la divulgazione di informazioni non finanziarie, che include indicatori ambientali, sociali e di governance. Ciò implica che le imprese interessate dal provvedimento devono riportare informazioni di dettaglio, ad esempio sul loro consumo di risorse, le emissioni di gas serra, le politiche di gestione dei rifiuti e tra le altre cose anche gli impatti delle proprie attività su mari ed ecosistemi marini, così come le iniziative per ridurle e generare impatti positivi.
La direttiva, entrata in vigore ormai più di un anno fa, diventerà vincolante da quest’anno per un primo gruppo di imprese, prevedendo poi un graduale allargamento della platea.
In particolare, i primi soggetti interessati sono quelli verso i quali si applicava già la NFRD (Non-Financial Reporting Directive), cioè la direttiva aggiornata e superata dalla CSRD.
Si tratta di grandi imprese di interesse pubblico con più di 500 dipendenti e almeno uno tra i seguenti criteri: - totale attivo di stato patrimoniale > € 20 mln;
- ricavi netti > € 40 mln.
Queste imprese a partire dal gennaio 2025, dovranno applicare le nuove regole nell’elaborazione dei loro report, in riferimento all’anno 2024.
Quali sono le tempistiche previste per le altre tipologie di azienda? Quali sono gli standard che si dovranno applicare? Quali altre norme entrano in gioco? Come gestire i dati e le informazioni a livello aziendale?

Those who work in the field of sustainability know this well: in recent months we have witnessed a real acceleration in the production of standards and reference standards at international level. It is not easy to keep up with this maze of acronyms, documents and concepts, especially for those who have been accustomed to running a business following the assumption that "I have always done so and it has always worked". This "Business as Usual" approach in times of rapid changes such as the current ones, represents a risk that must be recognized and overcome, questioning and integrating new skills and knowledge. It is also for this reason that we at Sea the Change have decided to give life to this newsletter: to update those who follow us, transmitting useful information and knowledge, always looking, of course, at the relationship between these evolutions and the protection of the seas, oceans and marine ecosystems. Let’s start from the basics: CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY DIRECTIVE. CSRD is in fact a key element contributing to the sustainable transformation of European companies and their supply chains .A key aspect of CSRD is the dissemination of non-financial information, including environmental, social and governance indicators. This implies that the companies affected by the measure must report detailed information, for example on their resource consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, waste management policies and, among other things, the impacts of their activities on seas and marine ecosystems, as well as initiatives to reduce and generate positive impacts. The directive, which came into force more than a year ago, will become binding from this year on a first group of companies, with a gradual enlargement of the audience. In particular, the first interested parties are those to whom the NFRD (Non-Financial Reporting Directive) already applied, that is the directive updated and superseded by the CSRD.
These are large enterprises of public interest with more than 500 employees and at least one of the following criteria: - total balance sheet assets > € 20 million;
- net revenues > €40 million.
These companies, starting from January 2025, will have to apply the new rules in the elaboration of their reports, about the year 2024.
What are the timeframes for other types of companies? What are the standards that will apply? What other rules come into play? How to manage data and information at the company level?
In the coming weeks, we will try to answer these questions in this newsletter.
