💧 Can sand dams help mitigate water shortages in semi-arid regions?   Dr. Andreas Braun from the University of Tübingen explored the potential of Sentinel-1 SAR data to provide new insights into surface deformations caused by water extraction but also increased storage volume near sand dams in selected African regions. 👏 We are proud to highlight the work of our users Liguang Jiang, Karina Nielsen, and Ole B. Andersen, on how geodetic altimetry data can support inland water research and its many applications. 🛰️ Geodetic mission (GM) altimetry data, which comes from satellites that don’t pass over the same spot on Earth as often as some other types of satellites, hasn’t been used as much as it could be in studying water on Earth. 🌊 This study demonstrates how GM data from missions like CryoSat-2, Saral/AltiKa, Jason-1, and Jason-2 can make a difference by: 🔹 Monitoring lakes to better understand regional and global water cycles; 🔹 Improving water level measurements; 🔹 Mapping river profiles and tracking changes in water levels over time.
