SAES, with Laboratorio Elettrofisico Engineering and Elpa Srl di Passafaro Salvatore & c (Elpa Impianti Srl), has completed the installation of the cabinets and electronics powering the NEG pumps. This critical step will enable the activation and regeneration of the pump obtaining a pumping speed exceeding 300,000 l/s, ensuring the optimal performance of the SPIDER facility at Consorzio RFX. A special thanks to Samuele Dal Bello and Marco Siragusa, who coordinated the project with dedication and precision. This system is designed to support the Neutral Beam Injection (NBI) for ITER Organization, in which Consorzio RFX plays an integral role. The next steps, anticipated for 2025, will include the final installation, Site Acceptance Tests, and commissioning of the pump. The first of six sextupole chambers for GSI particle accelerator has been successfully installed in a high-performance magnet system. This marks an important step in a cutting-edge project that will have a significant impact in advanced scientific research. The GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt operates a worldwide leading accelerator facility for research purposes, to reach a better understanding of the structure and behavior of the world that surrounds us. But what exactly is a sextupole chamber? A sextupole chamber is a specialized vacuum component used in particle accelerators and synchrotrons. It’s designed to house a sextupole magnet, which focuses and stabilizes particle beams by correcting aberrations caused by the non-linear nature of magnetic fields. By stabilizing the beam and enhancing its focus, sextupole chambers play a vital role in enabling groundbreaking discoveries and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in science and technology.
