Our very own AI-VR-Cyber experiment!
Can Cyber learn from the Education sector?
Last week at Highlands College, Jersey we conducted an experiment to find a new way of delivering #CyberAwareness training using #ArtificialIntelligence.
Jersey resident Phil Morris from Vizual Reality brought his VR suite to Highlands College with guest and fantasy novelist Jacqueline Florence. Students and staff immersed themselves in alternative worlds, experiencing physical and emotional sensations as their perception adjusted to the man-made scenarios.
Why did we do this..? Perception and belief are everything. Phishing is a crime where the victim must be complicit, believing that what they are doing is legitimate, when really, they are responding to a made-up scenario with costly and upsetting outcomes.
This experiment did not use the amazing VR equipment or visual effects from Vizual Reality for its original, intended purpose, but being adaptive (a strength in the education world) we used it to deliver a learning experience that was unexpected and memorable.
Here is how our session was different from standard training:
Traditional Cyber Training:
En Masse; Passive, Comprehension based; Assessment based; Mandatory; Basic technology utilised; Computer-based; Theme - Cyber security; Topic - cyber centric; Approach: this is what to think and do…
Our AI and VR Cyber Training Experiment:
Groups and tribes; Immersive, interactive and physical; Challenge and/or experience based; Concluded with discussion and debate; Invitational; AI powered virtual reality; ‘Human-in-the-loop’ in partnership with VR; Theme: Outer space moon walks and bank heist; Topic: understanding yourself, your reactions; Approach: What do you think..?
The experiment was a success and unearthed some ideas for future exploration, especially considering how Cyber and corporate communities can learn from us in Education:
· Cyber training that fully embraces Learning Styles (Fleming) and Multiple Intelligences (Gardner) integrating AI features could create more engaging and inclusive training; can this be invented please?
· Having restrictions for budget and time forces creative solutions that can be more powerful, how can this be developed further and repeated?
· The education sector is currently responsible for your future workforce – should corporations with deeper pockets assist cyber training their future workforce?
