  • Jersey was represented by the wonderful Dr. Adam Perchard at the 14th annual Transpoesie international poetry festival in Brussels. As part of the festival, which celebrated surrealist poetry and linguistic diversity, Adam performed 3 long-form poems, and forged connections with many other European poets. They describe their experience below: "Representing Jersey in Brussels at the international poetry festival, Transpoesie, was an extraordinary, transformative experience. I met and exchanged ideas with some incredible poets from across Europe – poets writing in more than a dozen languages about war, trauma, healing, feminisms, injustices, culture, history, and the gaps between meaning and unmeaning. It was a joyful, fiercely stimulating time. The theme of surrealism provoked some gloriously experimental work, and many of us chose to lean into the trope of resistance at the heart of the surrealist movement. I performed three long-form poems over the course of 48 hours – the first was giving voice to the 65 victims of Jersey’s historic witch trials, the second was ‘Meanwhile the Gays’ a polyphonic epic about homophobia and the shapes society twists gay people into, and the final poem was about the double-edged sword of queer visibility and the dangers it poses to those of us who walk the world in beautiful, defiant plumage..." • We at Creative Island Partnership, alongside ArtHouse Jersey and Guernsey Arts, are excited to announce the second year of the Channel Islands Touring Fund! This initiative, funded by the Government of Jersey and Guernsey Arts, is designed to support the professional development of music artists from the Channel Islands while fostering a rich cultural exchange between Jersey and Guernsey. This is a great opportunity for musicians from both islands to apply for travel support, enabling them to perform across the Channel Islands, Normandy, and Brittany. Eligible artists may include sound artists, classical musicians, bands, and singer-songwriters. Artists can grow their local audiences, access the French live music scene, and build connections with other professionals within the region. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the fund is fully allocated, with decisions made at the end of each month. • Save the date! The Corn Riots Festival is coming soon… On September 28th & 29th, the Royal Square will come to life to the beat of the Corn Riots! A weekend to celebrate Jersey's culture and history. The Corn Riots Festival returns with live music & performers, food stalls, and a local farmers market. But what is this annual festival all about? This festival marks a pivotal moment in Jersey's history—the anniversary of the Corn Riots of 1769. Over 250 years ago, brave Islanders stood up to challenge unfair taxation and skyrocketing food prices, demanding change. Their courage reshaped our Island, leading to the Code of 1771, which limited the power of Jersey’s authorities. So come celebrate not just our past, but the creativity and community that defines Jersey today, L’esprit Jèrriais!
