  • As the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence comes to a close, we reflect on the urgent need for a global shift in attitudes and behaviors towards gender equality. 🌎 These 16 days remind us that GBV is not just an issue for women - everyone in our communities, especially men, need to come together to tackle the problem. 🤝 At MAGENTA, we are thriving everyday to implement SBC strategies that make a difference to women in their communities and where they feel vulnerable. Whether that be capacity building or media campaigns, we know we need to involve as many people as possible in order to find the correct action to take. What are you doing to help combat GBV? #NoExcuse #16DaysofActivism #GBV #ViolenceAgainstWomen #16Days

  • Addressing GBV by focusing only on women is like planting a garden in toxic soil. No matter how much you nurture the plants, they'll struggle to thrive unless you improve the soil first. Dominant masculinities are the harmful elements in our societal 'soil' - deeply ingrained, pervasive, and harmful. 🌳 Masculinity is a vital driver behind understanding GBV. Positive masculinity programs that focus on emotional expression, respectful relationships, and non-violent conflict resolution significantly reduce gender-based violence and increase gender equality. 🤝 Recently this work took us to Cote d'Ivoire, where Amelie Moretti, Fatou Racine Sy FALL and Josephine Klein ran trainings on positive masculinity. These discussions highlight how important it is to include men in conversation around GBV, if behaviours are to truly change long-term. 🇨🇮 #NoExcuse #16DaysofActivism #GBV #ViolenceAgainstWomen #16Days

  • Why is MAGENTA participating in 16 Days? This global campaign gives us the opportunity to: - revitalise our commitment to making the world a safer place for women 🙌 - call for accountability and action from decision-makers ✊ - share ideas and innovations for tackling GBV 💡 As an organisation with a grounding in feminism and women's rights, working to combat GBV has always been a priority for us. We believe SBC is a powerful tool for this job, striking at the crux of the issue and building capacity for communities to build their own resilience against the violence. We believe this campaign is vitally important to creating the worldwide exposure that this problem needs, and are proud to be involved. #NoExcuse #16DaysofActivism #GBV #ViolenceAgainstWomen #16Days

  • Reports of revenge porn in the UK increased by 106% from 2022 to 2023. With smartphones becoming widely available and used across the world over the last few decades, they have brought with them a new wave of technology-facilitated gender-based violence. 📱 In steps the Camdom app, an innovative tool that protects privacy by locking both people's camera and microphone. Creative campaigns such as these find new ways to tackle GBV and help women stay safe online. • Artivism: a creative, powerful tool in tackling GBV. 🎨 A large part of the 16 Days of Activism is coming together to think of new innovative ways to tackle GBV. 💡 Art is a fantastic way to bring people together, fostering a postive creative environment that strengthens group identities - incredibly useful in supporting groups tackling violence against women. We have utilised art before, in Oaxaca and Estado de México, where local communities painted murals to show the damage that online violence can have on women. 🇲🇽 See the video below of some beautiful collaborative art from the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) Conference 2024, taken by Ana Cecilia Campos! #NoExcuse #16DaysofActivism #GBV #ViolenceAgainstWomen #16Days

  • Nearly 40% of women and girls globally have experienced technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV). Technology and online spaces are increasingly being misused and weaponized against women and girls on the basis of their gender. 📱 Many TFGBV interventions still focus on awareness raising and providing post-experience support, both of which don’t necessarily tackle the root causes head on. Our programmes in Iraq and Mexico, however, leverage social and behaviour change approaches to craft preventative interventions that address the problem before it impacts individuals and communities. ✋ Delving deep into the drivers behind TFGBV behaviours, we found that men wanted to demostrate their desiribility, brag to their peers and feel like they have control over the women in question. Using these insights, we developed data-driven, locally-led interventions, tackling the problem at the roots. 🌱 Find out more on our programmes here: https://lnkd.in/eX8P53ed #NoExcuse #16DaysofActivism #GBV #ViolenceAgainstWomen #16Days

In Cote d'Ivoire, less than 2% of women report domestic and household violence. One of the biggest challenges vulnerable women face is underreporting. Fear, stigma, and a lack of trust in systems often silence survivors, leaving countless incidents of violence unreported and unaddressed. 🕊️ SBC strategies are useful tools to shift societal attitudes, build trust in support systems, and break down the barriers that prevent women and girls from coming forward. Strategies such as behavioural research can inform us about the sociological, psychological, and environmental barriers that stop women from speaking out. These insights then enable us to create tailored interventions, working specifically for the needs of the affected community. 🙌 #NoExcuse #16DaysofActivism #GBV #ViolenceAgainstWomen #16Days

40% of young men in Latin America think that the woman is to blame for assault if she is drunk. Men's perceptions of GBV in the Americas is a massive blocker to positive social change in women's lives, according to Oxfam. 🌎 With an issue as pervasive and ingrained as gender-based violence, it’s important to be innovative in our implemented actions. 💡 With our SBC work in Mexico, we are leading the way in new social and behavioural change techniques, working with men and perpetrators to try and understand the roots of the problem, and how to efficiently sever these roots. 🇲🇽 #NoExcuse #16DaysofActivism #GBV #ViolenceAgainstWomen #16Days
