Today we look back at the Seiko Marvel, the mechanical #watch that became the cornerstone of our watch business! Released to the market in 1956, the Seiko Marvel pushed many technological boundaries and gained global recognition as a groundbreaking mechanical watch. In 1957, it became the first Japanese watch to win the men's wristwatch division of a contest held by the Japan branch of the American Horological Society, surpassing non-Japanese models such as the Omega. The innovations of the Seiko Marvel weren't limited to design. It helped transform production efficiency and quality, marking significant progress in part-processing technologies and reducing production costs. The quality of this timepiece proved to be the basis for success in later mechanical watches, such as the Seiko Crown and Seiko Gyro Marvel, as well as being the foundation for the world's first commercially successful quartz watch! The Seiko Marvel remains a symbol of its time and is just one example of our commitment to excellence throughout our #history. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gndkEHzC #ProductDesign #technology #Epson

Mr. Gomi, Manager in our Environmental Technology Development Promotion Department, shares how Dry Fiber Technology and the PaperLab, the world’s first dry process office papermaking system came to life. Faced with mountains of documents, Epson’s president posed a challenge to find some positive way to use all that paper Inspired by the simplicity of washi, traditional Japanese paper, Mr. Gomi and his team developed a way to defibrate paper mechanically, skipping the water-intensive processes of conventional #recycling. This innovation powers PaperLab, a system that securely recycles paper on-site, protecting data while reducing #environmental impact. Beyond paper, Dry Fiber Technology can transform paper waste into ink pads, sound absorbers, and more. Read Mr. Gomi’s full story and Epson’s vision for a SmartCycle future: https://lnkd.in/g3KsD5zA *A small amount of water is used to maintain a certain level of humidity inside the PaperLab.

Let’s take a look back to August 1984, when we shook the #TV market with the ET-10, the world’s first liquid crystal pocket color TV! This groundbreaking device, powered by an innovative TFT liquid crystal display, was so small and thin, that it could be slipped into your pocket and taken anywhere. The ET-10 combined Epson's cutting-edge #LCD , semiconductor, and high-density assembly technologies, paving the way for future innovations like viewfinders for video cameras and light valves for liquid crystal projectors. Take a look back with us into #Epson #history, when in November 1985 Suwa Seikosha Co., Ltd and Epson Corporation merged to become Seiko Epson Corporation! Ichiro Hattori, who was appointed as the first president of Seiko Epson said the following at the inauguration ceremony: “Suwa Seikosha has maintained traditions since its founding and Epson was created among young people in the process of advancing diversification... From now on, combining these two companies, I want Seiko Epson to be reborn as a company that maintains the solid traditions since our founding together with new passion.” https://lnkd.in/gA6XcYPk
