Greentopia Japan is making city citizens self-sufficient and enabling environmental stewardship through urban farming solutions. From balcony greenhouse systems, home hydroponic towers on the terrace, or commercial roof-top tower farms, we can help design a customized solution for growing healthy and nutritious, organic, and pesticide-free fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Every urban farming development, no matter how small, contributes to a healthier environment for everyone. A few notable benefits: Hydroponic Systems generally use 90% less water than traditional methods Tremendous reduction in food miles and the associated CO2 emissions Food safety - pesticide free, organic, and picked at peak ripeness Food security - famine, drought, civil unrest, natural disasters, etc. will have less impact on your personal food supply Donation systems can be arranged in case of excess production Reduction of chemical runoff and soil depletion from traditional farms Urban food oases can be calming and restorative Achieve your Sustainable Development Goals now! Greentopia just installed a new tower at Ryozan Park Green in Tokyo. This indoor tower features 20 planting ports and will be growing fresh herbs and leafy greens for a local restaurant. We've started it with basil, parsley, dill, coriander, arugula, romaine, kale, sunny lettuce and frilly lettuce. Bon appetit!

This year the Grade 2 students at Seisen embarked on a new journey within the school's quest to deep-dive into educational units like "Sharing the Planet" with a 12 week course in hydroponics. While Grade 3 students participated in the Urban Farming course (complete with dirt and bugs - yuck!), Grade 2 used a simple nutrient water to feed their plants - all 80+ of them! - in a space smaller than two square meters! During the course, which met weekly, the students experimented with various factors affecting growth, learned about the importance of sustainable agriculture, and were introduced to a wealth of information on agriculture and the environment. At the conclusion of the course, students had already had 3 harvests, but saved the last for their Farmer's Market - and in the end sold enough crafts and vegetables to raise JPY 160,000!! Great job girls!!
This year our Grade 2 students have been learning about hydroponics with Richard Mayus from Greentopia Japan. At the end of the process students harvested and sold their vegetables at a Farmers market raising ¥160,000 for Room to Read. Our PYP Coordinator Jonathan Peto tells more in his latest post. https://lnkd.in/gCwwswe7
