Japanese space agency JAXA conducted an experiment with a detonation engine using S-520 sounding rocket. It is said that its demonstration in space with liquid fuel is the first in the world. IHI Aerospace received a letter of appreciation from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for its contribution to the success of the "Small Lunar Landing Demonstration Vehicle (SLIM)" project, which aims to demonstrate pinpoint landing technology on the lunar surface. As interest in lunar utilization increases and water resource surveys are being considered, SLIM has taken on the challenge of developing precision landing technology on the lunar surface, aiming to reach scientifically significant locations. SLIM is equipped with 12 "attitude control thrusters" developed and manufactured by IHI Aerospace. These thrusters play a crucial role in achieving pinpoint lunar landings by responding to guidance control instructions based on information such as image matching, and by adjusting the final landing posture near the lunar surface. The technologies demonstrated by SLIM will be key elements supporting Japan's space exploration efforts, including the Martian Moons Exploration (MMX) project and lunar polar missions. We are deeply honored to have contributed to its success, showcasing Japan's technological prowess to the world. 🚀News: Interstellar’s ZERO Rocket Turbopump Completes Power Pack Test We have successfully conducted the Power Pack Test of the turbopump for the COSMOS engine of the orbital class launch vehicle ZERO at the IHI Aerospace Aioi Test Site (Aioi City, Hyogo Prefecture). This marks the completion of the subscale turbopump model development. As a result, Interstellar is now the first venture organization, apart from Japanese flagship rocket-related enterprises, to possess proprietary turbopump technology, which enables the development of one of the most challenging components in rocket engineering. IHI Aerospace will provide a passive docking system in a collaboration with Kanematsu to Sierra Space. The passive docking system is an essential component that enables reliable and safe docking between spacecraft, such as Dream Chaser®, and a commercial space station. The passive docking system developed by IHI Aerospace complies with the International Docking System Standard (IDSS), and it is developed to realize simple, versatile, and highly reliable docking in space. The companies have completed the preliminary design review and are planning to collaborate toward the critical design. Since 2021, IHI Aerospace has been working with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency on the development of an IDSS compliant active docking system. https://lnkd.in/gFDpPics
