#Pioniergeist grows even stronger when shared: joining forces with Valeo in developing a 40% more sustainable, innovative magnet-free electric axle system. Introducing the iBEE system (inner Brushless Electrical Excitation), this cutting-edge technology aims to revolutionize performance and efficiency of magnet free electric motors—targeting upper segment electric vehicles with peak power ranging from 220 kW to 350 kW. The carbon footprint is expected to be reduced by more than 40 percent versus a permanent magnet electric motor of equivalent power. Valeo and MAHLE signed a Joint Development Agreement to combine both, MAHLE’s expertise on magnet-free rotors with its MAHLE Contactless Transmitter (MCT) technology and the expertise of Valeo in electric motors, inverters and associated motor control laws. Bionic innovation in owl sizes: taking inspiration from the wings of an owl, MAHLE’s engineering and simulation team developed a bionic structure for a cooling fan making demanding e-vehicle applications significantly quieter. Owls are the quietest flying birds in the world, and it is particularly in noise-sensitive areas that this bionic design shows its strength. During fast charging of vehicles, for example, reduced noise levels increase comfort for drivers and residents alike. MAHLE offers the fan in a wide power range from 300 watts to 35 kW—enabling applications from small electric passenger cars all the way to large, particularly temperature-sensitive fuel cell trucks. More than one billion people - approximately 15% of the global population experience disability. People with disabilities and their contributions are integral to shaping a sustainable and inclusive future. For this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we’re highlighting a very personal story from one of our colleagues, James Boyle, Head of HR in the UK. James shares his journey of resilience and insights into how workplaces can foster inclusivity without barriers. Having faced the life-changing challenge of a right leg, above knee amputation during his university years, James reflects on how essential it is to remove societal and institutional barriers for individuals with disabilities. He actively participates in numerous projects and hobbies in- and outside of MAHLE. Among them, he is an active swimmer, a member of multiple singing groups and an avid language learner. His positive attitude can be inspiration to many at MAHLE: “I have been really fortunate in being able to do many things that I never thought I would do again, after my amputation, I have my independence and generally appreciate life.” James continues to advocate for improvements in attitudes towards disability: “There are significant challenges for people with disabilities – too many to list. So, for “International Day of Persons with Disabilities”, think about how you would want to be treated if you had a disability and how you can affect that change for others.” This day also reminds us of the values instilled by our founders, Hermann and Dr. Ernst Mahle, who were convinced that “People come first.” This principle, a large leap forward at the time of its inception 100 years ago, continues to guide us as we support our employees and broader initiatives. One of those is the MAHLE Foundation, which supports projects that empower people with disabilities. Consortium led by MAHLE develops hydrogen engines for off-road applications To decarbonize the transportation sector, heavy commercial vehicles and non-road mobile machinery are also increasingly coming to the fore. Vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, and science, as well as small and medium-sized companies, including DEUTZ, KIT, The German Aerospace Center (DLR), Purem, Claas, Braunschweig University of Technology, Liebherr, Nagel, Umicore, NGK and Castrol, have therefore joined forces to comprehensively investigate the cross-application use of hydrogen-engine powertrain concepts for construction and agricultural applications. This three-year project is being funded with EUR 5.1 million by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and supported by TÜV Rheinland. As part of our ongoing transformation process, we’re streamlining our group structure for greater efficiency and speed. We’re merging business areas with related production technology and synergies and reduce the number of our business units from five to three. This will lay the foundations for our future business fields electrification and thermal management to benefit from the considerable industrial know-how and strengths of areas closely linked with the combustion engine. In addition, to further strengthen our thermal management business as a driver of electrification, we’re increasing MAHLE’s stake in the MAHLE Behr GmbH & Co. KG to 100%. We are also streamlining our top management, reducing the number of Group Management Board members from seven to four, effective January 1, 2025: - Arnd Franz as Chairman of the Management Board and CEO - Markus Kapaun as CFO - Jumana Al-Sibai will be responsible for business unit „Thermal and Fluid Systems“ - Georg Dietz will lead the business unit „Powertrain and Charging“ “Through these far-reaching changes, we will make our business ready for the future.
