A recent hands-on training session was conducted at the Institut des Matériaux de Nantes Jean Rouxel in Nantes, France, focusing on the SmartLab XE, an automated multipurpose X-ray diffractometer. The SmartLab XE is equipped with a 96-well plate attachment, facilitating high-throughput measurements of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) in both reflection and transmission geometries. Additionally, the diffractometer is utilized for pair distribution function (PDF) analysis, employing a molybdenum (Mo) tube and a CBO-E mirror for fully automated beam switching between divergent and convergent beams. It also features a pre-aligned capillary attachment for transmission geometry measurements. The system is integrated with SmartLab Studio II software, which supports advanced data analysis, including cluster analysis of extensive datasets, automated Rietveld refinement, crystallite size determination, among other functionalities. The training, led by Dr. Maciej Grzywa, our XRD expert, covered automatic diffractometer alignment, rapid X-ray tube replacement, and MOFs measurements in both reflection and transmission geometries. Additionally, the session included demonstrations of data analysis using SmartLab Studio II software. This training provided a comprehensive learning experience, highlighting the intricacies and potential of materials analysis. Thank you to everyone who participated for their teamwork and dedication! #MaterialsScience #XRD #SmartLabXE #MOF #PDFAnalysis #DataVisualization #RietveldRefinement #ScientificResearch #ClusterAnalysis
