Power generation through direct combustion of biomass is considered carbon neutrality. Direct combustion of biomass for power generation is a well-established technology and accounts for the largest share of biomass energy use. However, biomass stored in silos can ferment, producing methane and increasing the risk of ignition, which could lead to significant accidents. During smoldering and ignition, carbon monoxide is produced, and monitoring of carbon monoxide can help detect early signs of ignition and prevent fires or explosions. Traditional sensing technologies such as catalytic combustion gas sensors or potentiometric electrolysis method sensors, require oxygen to detect carbon monoxide. Unfortunately, fermentation often lowers the oxygen concentration in the silo's ambient air, making it increasingly difficult for these sensors to detect carbon monoxide. Our solution to address customer challenge is the Multi-Component Gas Analyzer VA-5000 Series. This analyzer uses the NDIR method for CO gas detection, allowing it to measure CO concentration without being affected by the decreased oxygen levels in the silo. Additionally, a single analyzer can measure carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH₄) and Oxygen (O₂).
