🧪 POC Program Spotlight: Tackling Key Challenges in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Synthesis 🧪 Organic compounds, like chemical reagents and pharmaceuticals, are highly susceptible to decomposition or isomerization due to acidic or basic impurities, leading to discarded samples, costly re-purification processes, and significant material waste. In pharmaceutical production, this problem can drastically reduce product yields while driving up costs and environmental impact. Traditional methods, such as low-temperature storage, are expensive, energy-intensive, and often unsustainable, making them impractical for large-scale applications. 💡 The OIST Innovation With support from the OIST Proof of Concept Program, Professor Fujie Tanaka, Muhammad Sohail, and team at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology developed a novel heterogeneous buffer that uses resin-conjugated cyclic-1,3-dione derivatives to suppress acid- and base-driven decompositions and isomerizations in organic solvents. Why This Matters: 💊 Industry Impact: Enhances production efficiency for pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals 🌏 Environmental Benefits: Reduces chemical waste and energy consumption, aligning with global sustainability goals 👌 Practical Advantages: The buffer is easy to use, requires no special equipment, and can be removed via simple filtration 📈 Scalability: Offers a cost-effective alternative to refrigeration, making it viable for commercial production Published in Chemistry: A European Journal, the technology demonstrates how research at #OIST is driving #sustainability and #innovation in industry: https://lnkd.in/edKBfWSE Your Opportunity: Looking for ways to improve the efficiency and sustainability of your chemical or pharmaceutical processes?
