Hansa’u Umar is one of #AGRA’s 65 Community-Based Advisors (CBAs) of Dakachi, Zaria LGA, #KadunaState. This week, she welcomed fellow farmers to her field to showcase the Assila F1 tomato variety. Hansa’u’s journey took a new turn in 2022 when she joined AGRA’s Kaduna Consortium, led by NAERLS. Through rigorous training in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), she mastered value chains for wet-season crops and dry-season vegetables—unlocking new possibilities for her farm. Her good efforts resulted in ₦280,000 profit from just 1/8 hectare of cabbage in 2023. This year, she has expanded into tomatoes, and her farm stands out as one of the best in the area. With a keen business sense, she now raises and sells quality seedlings and has secured a strategic partnership with Isah Agro to market Bayer seeds—Assila F1 and Ansal for tomatoes, Oxylaw and Amphiom for cabbage. “Farming has been my passion for 11 years, but the last three years changed my story. “AGRA’s training gave me the knowledge, and my husband’s full support gave me the confidence to push forward,” she shares. And she is confident about the market opportunities. Despite being her first season with tomatoes, demand is already outpacing supply—a true testament to the power of the right seeds, skills, and market connections. From the soil of Dakachi to a future of abundance, Hansa’u is a a trailblazer, proving that with knowledge and opportunity, smallholder farmers can thrive. #FoodSystems | Jessie Lafourcade-Morena | Esther Ibrahim

Transforming Food Systems: Green Climate Fund and AGRA Join Forces to Tackle Food Loss We are thrilled to announce that the Green Climate Fund (#GCF) Board has approved RE-GAIN a groundbreaking programme in partnership with AGRA to drive food loss reduction solutions (#FLRS) across Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. Food loss remains one of the biggest threats to food security, farmer incomes, and climate resilience in Africa. Smallholder farmers and MSMEs often struggle with post-harvest losses due to limited access to technologies, weak market linkages, and policy gaps. RE-GAIN aims to change this by: ✅ Increasing demand and adoption of food loss reduction solutions among farmers ✅ Strengthening the supply and affordability of these solutions ✅ Ensuring an enabling market environment with active private sector participation As the first-ever GCF programme focused on food loss reduction, this initiative has the potential for transformative impact, ensuring that more food reaches consumers, farmers gain more value from their harvests, and climate resilience is strengthened across food systems. At AGRA, we are geared up to make this vision a reality, working alongside partners to create lasting change. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dqMxzJAS

As, we reflect on the dynamic world of #foodsystems, let's us celebrates these silent superheroes – pulses; bean, lentil, grasspea, forage legumes, and chickpea. Over the year's #AGRA has supported the breeding of various variety of legumes. The intricate relationship with nitrogen-fixing bacteria serves to enrich the soil with essential nutrients. Further, the fixed nitrogen used by pulses is in turn released when the plant breaks down (becoming available to other crops if in rotation on the land, such as wheat). #WorldPulseDay
