The office is competent for Kenya, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
About us
The AICS regional office in Nairobi oversees a vast area including Central, Eastern, and Southern Africa. Alongside Kenya and Somalia, which are top-priority countries for the Agency, the office has also taken responsibility for Tanzania and Uganda since 2016, and Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Rwanda since 2018. In these nations, development cooperation goals and priorities are determined by the low levels of human development and distributional imbalances, as well as the recurring climate shocks, food security, social services, and health concerns. This complexity necessitates a concentrated effort on two levels: firstly, building economic opportunities for training, job creation (with a focus on young people and women) and supporting entrepreneurship, and secondly, improving food and nutrition security, strengthening basic health and education services, and protecting the most vulnerable individuals in the population.

📢 Strengthening Healthcare Systems in East Africa: A Data-Driven Approach 📊 Data plays a crucial role in assessing and improving health outcomes in communities. Through the regional health program in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania funded by Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo, we are sharing best practices on how data is used to evaluate healthcare performance, with real cases from six health facilities across these countries. At our recent regional workshop in Uganda, 27 health specialists, including representatives from the Ministries of Health, gathered to discuss the impact of data-driven decision-making in strengthening healthcare systems. This initiative is already showing positive results, including a reduction in maternal and neonatal mortality rates. As highlighted by Dr. Paul Mbaka, Assistant Commissioner at Uganda’s Ministry of Health, these collaborative efforts are saving lives. By working together—governments, healthcare professionals, donors, and communities—we can ensure that every mother and newborn receives the quality care they deserve. Exciting News! I’m honored to share that I’m a panelist at Italia Africa Business Week (IABW) being held in Rome Italy, where I will be discussing the powerful role of Italian Cooperation and the diaspora in driving the growth of the private sector in Africa. Over the past 5 years, it has been incredible to witness the journey of Africa Collect Textiles—from being accelerated by the E4Impact Accelerator to now scaling our impact and expanding our operations. We couldn’t have reached this stage without the invaluable support of initiatives like Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. In addition, I’m proud to share that Africa Collect Textiles is a shareholder in Tujikuze Ethical Fashion, a social impact initiative empowering artisans in rural Kenya by producing high-quality accessories for international brands. Though the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation financial support, Tujikuze Ethical Fashion created over 2,500 jobs in 2024 through creating 105,000 Key Chains for giant retail chain supermaket Conad. The year 2025 even looks better with optimism. This collaboration shows the potential of partnerships between African enterprises and international support to create meaningful change. Looking forward to sharing more insights at IABW and continuing to strengthen the relationship between Italy, Africa, and the diaspora to unlock sustainable growth in the private sector.
