Our Founder & Chairman, Sunil Bharti Mittal was presented the insignia of the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) by H.E. Lindy Cameron, British High Commissioner to India on behalf of His Majesty King Charles III. The investiture was conducted at a ceremony held in New Delhi earlier today, Saturday February 22, 2025. The KBE is among the highest honours conferred by the British Sovereign on civilians, and is awarded in an honorary capacity to foreign nationals. Announced on February 28, 2024, this recognition celebrates Mr. Mittal’s contributions to strengthening UK – India business relations, making him the first Indian citizen to have received the honour from His Majesty the King. He is a member of the Vice Chancellor’s Circle of Advisors at the University of Cambridge. Airtel Africa is committed to providing children across sub-Saharan Africa with access to quality education. Our flagship five-year partnership with UNICEF has connected over 1,200 schools to the internet, providing over 1 million learners with access to quality digital education resources and training for more than 17,000 teachers on how to use them effectively. CEO Sunil Taldar recently visited St. Agnes Nursery and Primary School in Lagos, Nigeria, to experience firsthand the impact of the Airtel Africa-UNICEF partnership on students and teachers alike.
