Our first meeting of 2025 was filled with energy, purpose, and strategic planning to empower and educate more people in our community. We also held an insightful In-House Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) session with our dedicated peer educators. This session aimed to strengthen their knowledge and capacity to lead transformative conversations within our community. Key topics covered included: 🔹 Understanding Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH): Empowering our peer educators with comprehensive knowledge about SRH to foster healthy choices and informed decision-making. 🔹 Family Planning and Contraceptives: Discussing accessible, safe, and effective family planning methods to promote reproductive autonomy and reduce unintended pregnancies. 🔹 Menstrual Health and Hygiene: Breaking the stigma around menstruation and promoting proper menstrual hygiene management to ensure dignity, comfort, and confidence for all girls. 🔹 HIV/AIDS Awareness: Raising awareness about HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and the fight against stigma and discrimination. 🔹 Gender-Based Violence (GBV): Educating on prevention, response, and support mechanisms for survivors of GBV, while advocating for safer spaces for women and girls. • We had the privilege of attending the stakeholder engagement meeting on the Youth Bill 2024 at Ofafa Memorial Hall. The meeting brought together youth representatives from the western region counties, including Kisumu, Kakamega, Vihiga, Siaya, Busia, and Bungoma. The diverse representation ensured inclusive contributions, including those from Persons with Disabilities, who shared their perspectives on provisions they wished to see included in the bill. The discussions were impactful, with participants articulating their concerns confidently and emphasizing the importance of effective implementation. The event also featured the submission of memorandums. We remain hopeful that the issues raised will be thoroughly considered and addressed. Youth Alive! • Dreams Redefined participated in a youth engagement meeting convened by Uraia Trust at Le Savanna Country Lounge & Hotel to discuss the impact of corruption and strategies for addressing it within communities. This initiative aligns with Uraia’s mission to promote civic education and active citizenship, empowering young people to be agents of change in the fight against corruption. The key objectives of the meeting were: √To raise awareness among youth on corruption and its effects. √To identify corruption-prone areas. √To explore forms of corruption. √To identify key actors in successful anti-corruption campaigns. √To review the OCOB report, focusing on Gender, Sports, and Culture in relation to recurrent and development budgets. √To identify ways for youth to engage in anti-corruption initiatives. √To establish a network of young anti-corruption advocates. Youth shared stories of their experiences with corruption, including issues encountered during tender pitching and job applications, while also highlighting youth-led initiatives to fight corruption. Did you know that out of the Ksh. 13.70 billion supplementary budget for FY 2023/2024, an estimated Ksh. 217.03 million (comprising recurrent and development allocations) was allocated to Gender, Sports, and Culture—only accounting for 16% of the total? Now you know! #Youthempowerment #Fightagainstcorruption #WeareDGYG
