November Update! #EMobility in Rural and Peri-Urban Areas 🏍️ Last month, E-Safiri was privileged to host a panel discussion during the Lake Region Motor Show. The panel presented a holistic view on how electric mobility could impact livelihoods, support environmental objectives, & contribute to resilience in rural and peri-urban regions. Some key insights from the discussion; ⚡️Localized Capacity Building for Maintenance The panelists stressed the need for local training programs focused on operating, maintaining and repairing EVs to foster self-sufficiency and reduce reliance on urban service centers. Developing local expertise is therefore essential for sustaining the e-mobility shift in rural and peri-urban areas. 🪫Infrastructure Development and Renewable Energy Integration - Establishing charging infrastructure in rural and peri-urban regions is a significant step toward enhancing e-mobility access. The adoption of renewable energy technologies such as solar-powered charging stations can address power limitations and make e-mobility feasible in regions with limited energy resources. 💡Policy and Regulation for Rural E-Mobility – There is an urgent need to formulate policies and regulations that specifically support EV adoption in rural areas. Policies that address infrastructure, safety standards, and environmental impact can create a supportive framework for rural e-mobility. 🌸Gender Inclusion and Youth Empowerment is key to fostering equal opportunities. Programs that actively engage women and youth in the e-mobility workforce can promote broader societal benefits, ensuring diverse participation and creating new avenues for economic independence. 🗣️Flexible Financing Models – The high upfront costs of EVs require innovative financing models to make electric mobility accessible. Flexible payment plans, micro-financing options, and partnerships with financial institutions will help overcome financial barriers and encourage adoption 🌟Community Awareness and Technical Training - Creating awareness within local communities on benefits and mechanics of e-mobility is crucial. Initiatives that focus on both operational and technical aspects of EVs will empower communities to manage e-mobility resources effectively. 💡 Design Adaptations for Local Terrain - The design of EVs, particularly motorcycles and other small vehicles, needs to be customized for rural terrain. To ensure flexibility and performance to handle local geographies and improve the viability and appeal of EVs in these areas. The panel discussion sparked a conversation on how best local TVETs & learning institutions can be best positioned to create a ready labor force for achieving the transition in rural and peri-urban areas. By embracing these strategies, Kenya can advance toward its sustainability goals, ensuring that rural and peri-urban communities are not left behind in the green mobility transition. #leavenonebehind #LRM2024 P4G Partnerships

Founder & CEO Senken | Expert in Carbon Markets and Corporate Sustainability | Driving Net-Zero Goals & Climate Action Investment
Africa will be THE location to be for climate entrepreneurs. The African market offers the most significant opportunities to build a climate startup. The opportunities are unlimited. On my numerous trips through Africa, I've encountered some of the most ingenious people in my life. From people finding new ways to grow sea kelp to finding solutions to the struggle of non-existing grid infrastructure. In light of today's The Earthshot Prize, which is happening right next to my home in South Africa, I want to shed some light on the companies and entrepreneurs in Africa. There is an exhibition at the Cape Town promenade if you have time to visit :-) It must be a cruel joke that the US election and the Earthshot prize award ceremony are held on the same day. Hoping to see more and more projects that Senken supports amongst the Eartshot price winners!! So let's look at the silver linings --> give an African climate tech entrepreneur a shoutout in the comments! 💚 Companies of the exhibition: Africa Collect Textiles CLAWS Conservancy Solar Sister E-Safiri - Driving Africa’s transition to sustainable transport Ujamaa Community Resource Team Bekia inc Mobility for Africa eBee.africa Rethread Africa Safi Organics Ltd. Carbon Markets and Climate Financing in the E-mobility Sector. Through E-Safiri - Driving Africa’s transition to sustainable transport I was privileged to attend the three days workshop on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance in the E-Mobility Sector organized by Siemens Stiftung , Africa E-Mobility Alliance facilitated by Verst Carbon. The workshop gave an opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding into developing and running successful #Carbon Projects, from feasibility studies, the various methodologies applied in developing carbon projects and frameworks for calculating emissions reductions; the regulations and policies governing the carbon markets in the country and globally; and the various sector players in markets. Key take home! Project additionality is key, and it’s important to identify most significant contributions a carbon project has to ensure emissions reductions, project viability and contribution to mitigating climate change. The e-mobility sector holds a great potential in promoting sustainability of our transport sector and we can aggregate to partner, advocate and laverage on carbon markets and climate financing to accelerate adoption and scale up of e-mobility in the country and beyond. A big thanks to, Africa E-Mobility Alliance Siemens Stiftung and Verst Carbon for the opportunity and awesome engagement in the workshop. Looking forward for to more engagements!
