About us

🌸 Empowering Women and Girls in Rural Kenya Welcome to Footprints of Hope, a non-profit organization based in Western Kenya committed to transforming the lives of women and girls since 2019. At the heart of our mission is the belief that every girl deserves access to education, dignity and a future full of promise. 🚀Our Mission: Bridging Gaps, Building Futures We specialize in providing essential support to young women aged 11-20, a critical phase where they shape their identities amidst unique challenges. Our focus areas include health, socio-economic empowerment and mentorships within rural communities. 🩸Breaking the Silence: Menstrual Hygiene Matters In rural Kenya, approximately 70% of girls face barriers to accessing affordable sanitary pads, leading to missed school days and perpetuating a cycle of stigma surrounding menstruation. The lack of clean water exacerbates these challenges, contributing to the longstanding issue documented since the 1980s. 🌍Our Impact: Changing Lives One Girl at a Time Since our inception, we've been dedicated to breaking the silence around periods. We believe in empowering girls by providing not just sanitary products but also education, mentorship and a supportive community. Our goal is to ensure that no girl feels alone or held back due to societal taboos. 💪Join the Movement: Empower, Educate, Elevate Together, we can make a difference. Join us in our journey to empower the next generation of women in rural Kenya and beyond. Let's break the stigma, foster open conversations and create a world where all women feel comfortable discussing their experiences without fear or embarrassment. #empowerher #menstrualhygienematters #ruralempowerment

  • At our recent ceremony, we had the honor of hosting an inspiring guest speaker who spoke passionately on the rights of women. Lenah Migide's words were a powerful reminder of the urgent need to uphold and protect these rights in every part of our society. In light of the rising cases of femicide and gender-based violence in Kenya, we at Footprints of Hope are more committed than ever to this cause. Women should not only be empowered to stand up and speak out against violence but must also be heard, respected and protected. Lenah emphasized that these rights are not optional, they are fundamental. Our work is more than a mission,it’s a movement. We fight for a world where women can live free from fear, where their voices aren’t silenced and where safety and dignity are accessible to all. As we carry forward the message of our guest speaker, we’re calling our community, partners and allies to join us. Let’s work together to create a society that values every woman’s life and well-being. Together, let’s make a difference. Let’s ensure that the rights of women are not just discussed but defended for today, for tomorrow and for future generations. #tuzidisana #womensrights #stopfemicide #safetyforwomen #empowerment #genderequality #stopkillingwomen

  • Harnessing the power of Mentorship for Girls and Young Women 💫 Mentorship plays a crucial role in empowering girls and young women. It provides guidance and support, helping them navigate the challenges of adolescence and adulthood. Mentorship programs aim to foster confidence, resilience and leadership skills in girls, enabling them to reach their full potential. Here are some benefits of mentorship: 1️⃣ Building Confidence and Self-esteem One of the most significant benefits of mentorship is the development of confidence and self-esteem. When girls and young women have positive role models to look up to, they gain a sense of self-worth and belief in their abilities. Mentors can provide encouragement and validation, helping girls overcome self-doubt and challenge societal expectations. 2️⃣ Overcoming Stereotypes and Biases Mentorship can help girls and young women challenge stereotypes and biases they face. By being mentored by individuals who defy traditional gender roles, they can gain valuable insights into what is possible and what is expected of them. Mentorship programs often provide mentorship opportunities that go beyond traditional fields, encouraging girls to explore and pursue their passions regardless of societal norms. 3️⃣ Developing Leadership Skills Mentorship offers girls and young women the chance to develop essential leadership skills. Mentors can provide guidance and support in navigating decision-making processes, problem-solving and effective communication. By observing and learning from experienced leaders, girls can gain valuable insights into leadership styles and develop their own skills, preparing them for leadership roles in the future. 4️⃣ Fostering Resilience and Adaptability Mentorship can help girls and young women build resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges. Mentors who have experienced similar struggles can offer practical advice and emotional support. By sharing their own stories, mentors can help girls develop resilience, encouraging them to persevere in the face of adversity and adapt to changing circumstances. 5️⃣ Promoting Gender Equality Mentorship plays a vital role in promoting gender equality. By providing girls and young women with access to mentors who are successful and influential individuals, they can gain insights into the challenges and opportunities available to both genders. Mentorship programs can also challenge gender biases and stereotypes, helping girls and young women advocate for themselves and others. Mentorship is a powerful catalyst for empowering girls and young women. It provides guidance and support, helping them build confidence, challenge stereotypes and develop essential life skills. By fostering mentorship relationships, societies can empower girls and young women to become active participants in their communities and trailblazers for future generations. #mentorshipmatters #empowergirls #futureleaders #mentorshipjourney

  • Menstruation: Whose Responsibility Is It? Menstruation is a natural bodily function that all women experience at some point in their lives. Despite the universality of this event, there is still a great deal of confusion and discomfort surrounding the topic of menstruation. Who should be the first to talk about it with girls? What are the implications of not having the information beforehand? And how can parents, communities and schools play a role in educating and empowering girls? It is generally believed that girls' parents should be the primary source of information and guidance when it comes to menstruation. However, there is no one definitive answer as to who should initiate the conversation. Ultimately, the decision should depend on the individual circumstances and beliefs of the family. Parents are undoubtedly the first adults who girls turn to for comfort and support. They have a deep understanding of their daughters' physical and emotional well-being and are best equipped to provide them with accurate information and reassurance. Additionally, parents can help girls navigate any misconceptions or taboos surrounding menstruation. However, it is also important to recognize that not all families are the same. Some parents may feel uncomfortable or unprepared to discuss this topic with their daughters. In these cases, it may be beneficial for schools or community organizations to step in and provide guidance and support. Many young girls go through their first period without any prior knowledge or preparation. This can lead to feelings of confusion, shame and anxiety. By providing girls with information about menstruation before they experience it, we can help alleviate some of this discomfort and empower them to make informed decisions. Having accurate information about menstruation can empower girls to take charge of their health. They will be able to recognize any changes in their body and seek appropriate medical care if necessary. Additionally, knowing what to expect during menstruation can make girls feel more confident and in control. Parents, communities and schools all have crucial roles to play in supporting girls and normalizing discussions about menstruation. Parents should provide accurate information and create a supportive environment for their daughters to ask questions. Communities can help destigmatize menstruation by promoting open discussions and organizing supportive events. Schools should include comprehensive sex education and provide necessary resources for girls to manage their menstrual needs. In conclusion, menstruation is a natural and essential part of a woman's life. By fostering open communication and providing accurate information, parents, communities and schools can help girls navigate this milestone with confidence and pride. Together, we can create a society that values and respects the health and well-being of girls, regardless of their menstrual status.
