Global Bioeconomy Summit (GBS2024)

Dear Friends and Partners, We would like to express our appreciation for your participation in and/or contribution to the #GlobalBioeconomySummit (GBS) 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya, in one way or another. We have received great feedback from the delegates who attended the Summit and started collaboration initiatives. This time, the #GBS2024 brought together in person almost 600 high-ranking bioeconomy representatives from policy and politics, science, civil society, development partners, and the business sector and from more than 50 countries to discuss sustainable bioeconomy solutions for global challenges in an inclusive manner. The Summit was in addition followed online by more than 2000 delegates. The Summit had a broad international representation of expertise in bioeconomy, innovation, biodiversity and sustainability. Participation of the youth was an important aspect of the Summit. Hace unas semanas tuvimos el privilegio de ser parte de la organización del Global Bioeconomy Summit (GBS2024) en Nairobi, Kenia, un evento que reunió a más de 500 participantes presenciales y 3,000 virtuales de todos los continentes. Este prestigioso foro continúa consolidándose como el espacio clave para fomentar el intercambio de conocimientos, experiencias y mejores prácticas hacia el desarrollo de una bioeconomía sostenible a nivel global. Desde su creación, el #GBS ha sido el punto de encuentro internacional para líderes, expertos, formuladores de políticas, científicos, empresarios y otros actores clave en el ámbito de la bioeconomía. 🌟 Un logro destacado del #GBS2024 fue el lanzamiento de la Alianza Global para la Bioeconomía, liderada por el International Advisory Council on Global Bioeconomy (IACGB). #GlobalBioeconomySummit 2024 brought together leaders of bioeconomy from all hemispheres and from diverse backgrounds to discuss sustainable bioeconomy solutions for a more resilient future. Co-hosted by ICIPE - International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology/BioInnovate Africa, the East African Commission for Science and Technology, and the SEI — Stockholm Environment Institute, the Summit highlighted the importance of #bioeconomy in addressing global challenges.

Driving a Greener Future: Eastern Africa’s Bioeconomy is Transforming Sustainability in the Region 🌍 Eastern Africa is paving the way towards a greener, more sustainable future through the power of the bioeconomy.🌱 This innovative approach uses natural resources—like plants, animals, and even waste—to produce valuable goods, from food to energy. With the recent release of the "State of the bioeconomy in Eastern Africa: 2024" report, produced by EASTECO, SEI, and icipe, it shows a snapshot of the region’s progress. 📊 Following the Global Bioeconomy Summit (GBS2024) in Nairobi, leaders and innovators are focusing on sustainable food systems, environmental protection, and job creation for youth. However, to fully unleash the bioeconomy’s potential, there are calls for stronger investments in R&D, better infrastructure, and unified policies to ease trade and innovation. I had the privilege of attending the Global Bioeconomy Summit (GBS2024) a few weeks ago, representing Hope Njoroge . The event brought together key stakeholders in the bio economy sector, including policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and innovators, offering a platform to exchange ideas and solutions for a sustainable and inclusive bio-based future. The summit explored critical themes such as: 1. Innovative Approaches to Bio-Based Solutions:Sessions delved into advancing bio-based technologies and innovations, emphasizing how they can address global challenges such as climate change, food security, and energy transition. 2. Global Bio economy Policies: Experts shared insights on harmonizing policies across regions to drive a circular and sustainable bio economy, focusing on international collaborations and equitable resource sharing. 3. Youth in the Bio economy:An engaging panel highlighted the role of young professionals in driving bio economy innovation, showcasing impactful youth-led projects from around the world. 4. Financing the Bio economy: Discussions included attracting investments in bio-based industries and the importance of public-private partnerships to scale up impactful initiatives. I attended several thought-provoking sessions that addressed how the bio economy can be leveraged for climate action and economic recovery. Of particular interest was the session on "Sustainable Bio economy for Climate Action," where panelists highlighted case studies of bio-based solutions reducing emissions and promoting regenerative practices. Another highlight was the networking opportunities provided by the summit. I had meaningful discussions with the global bio economy leaders, researchers, and innovators. These interactions expanded my understanding of cutting-edge technologies. #GBS2024 was a transformative experience, reinforcing the critical role of collaboration and innovation in building a resilient and inclusive bio-based future. I look forward to applying the lessons learned to drive impactful change in the bio economy sector locally and globally.

Oktober 2024 fand der Global Bioeconomy Summit (GBS2024) #GBS2024 erstmals außerhalb Europas in #Nairobi, #Kenia, statt.
