Kenya Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society is currently holding it's 48th Annual Scientific Congress with the theme *'Re-Imagining Reproductive and Mental Health for UHC: From Bench to Bedside and Beyond'* Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr , who earlier gave the key note address in the forum attended by Obstetricians and Gynaecologists from all over the country emphasized on the importance of reducing maternal deaths. _"I walked into one of our facilities in Makueni and on the board there were zero maternal deaths, the whole of last year. That board should be copied and posted in every institution because that is the legacy we must leave. We must leave the legacy that ensures that every woman that gives birth lives to see their child."_ Mutula said. During his presentation, Governor Mutula noted that 40 percent of maternal deaths are due to excessive bleeding. He added that this can be mitigated through embracing new interventions like the use of Heat Stable Carbetocin which Makueni has greatly benefited from as well as strengthening primary care networks. Makueni County Energy Plan Technical Working Group and Facility Managers participated in a five-days Energy Management Training in collaboration with Strathmore University and World Resources Institute. Representatives from Energy, Office of the Governor, Health, Agriculture, and Water Departments were trained on how to save energy at all scales. Eng. Naomi Nthambi, Chief Officer Housing and Energy opened the training by reiterating the importance of conserving energy in the county. In addition, she discussed the #Makueni #County #Energy #Plan and the current pilot projects spearheading energy efficiency in Makueni County. The key learning areas for Technical Working Group was a deep dive in six areas: Energy regulations; Energy policy and principles of Energy Management; Energy Procurement and Accounting; Energy Economics and Financial model; Energy management in buildings; and Energy Monitoring and Evaluation. Key learning areas for the Factory Managers were: The lighting system; Motors and motor control; The compressed air systems; Air conditioning and refrigeration systems; Fans and pumping systems; Boilers and steam systems; Alternative resources/building efficiency; Energy management system processes and M&E; and Energy management regulations/appliances energy performance and labelling regulations. The training concluded with a knowledge-sharing session between the Technical Working Group and Facility Managers to discuss how energy management can be implemented in Makueni County. Next steps discussed include: a)To finalize Makueni County Energy Plan development process. b) Establishing facility-level energy management teams. c) Team-to-team links should be established. d) Establish project teams to implement actions. e) Monitor, control, and report, including inspections and audits. f) Post-project Monitoring and Evaluation. g) Policy review.

Wote: February 1, 2024 Governor Mutula Jr Launches 100 Days Rapid Results Initiative to Enhance Own-source Revenue for Improved Service Delivery The Government of Makueni County Department of Finance, Planning, Budget and Revenue is targeting to raise Sh 1.24 billion by the financial year closing on June 30th, 2024 through rigorous sensitization efforts. To achieve this target, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr on Thursday launched a 100-day Rapid Results Initiative aimed at enhancing own-source revenue for improved service delivery. According to the Governor, this exercise will include auto and unified billing where individual bills can be paid in one invoice to maximize revenue while reducing government enforcement stress on taxpayers. “The unified billing provides an opportunity for the charges of two or more utility services to be cumulated in a single invoice…… All invoices will be issued digitally through SMS and payments can also be made using mobile phones,” said Mutula Jr. Furthermore, Mutula Jr emphasized that the government has embraced a cashless payment regime as part of its effort to minimize corruption risks, instill customer confidence and enhance accountability. Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili who also graced the event urged all business sector players to faithfully pay their revenues for better services. In addition, Finance and Revenue Executive Damaris Kavoi announced that liquor licenses would now be registered online, making services accessible faster and cost-friendly for citizens. During this initiative's duration of 100 days, county officials plan on reaching out to citizens with new revenue payment service information ensuring strict adherence is maintained. The business community present during the launch promised compliance as well as support towards achieving the ambitious targets set forth by the County Government.

As part of the Kenya Quality Ecosystem project, Jacaranda Health,ThinkWell alongside their County partners, Makueni, Mombasa and Kisii County held their first ever Cross-County project Learning Event held in Makueni County. The Kenya Quality Ecosystem Project Primary goal is to enhance maternal and newborn health outcomes in these three counties. It  links gaps that affect the quality of services that mothers receive in public facilities with low cost high impact private sector solutions. Christian Aid Kenya together with its partners Anglican Development Services (ADS) Kenya- Eastern, Cereal Growers Association and kitise rural development today met with Government Of Makueni County Governor Hon Mutula Kilonzo Jr to discuss the progress of some of Christian Aid's ongoing projects in the county. Christian Aid Kenya has been responding to the floods and landslides in Makueni in partnership with Anglican Development Services (ADS) Kenya- Eastern. Cases of landslides were reported in the county leading to landscape and ecosystem degradation (Makueni County proposal request for emergency support, December 5, 2023), forcing people to be evacuated to camps. The Makueni El Nino Response Project (MERP) supported over 200 households in three evacuation centers (KyaKituku, Katulye, and Kavata Nzou) in Kaiti and Kilome sub-counties in Makueni county with multipurpose cash transfer to help them meet their basic needs. Cereal Growers Association is implementing a project called “Promoting locally led climate resilient livelihoods for sustainable food and nutrition security” aimed at improving food and nutritional security and household economic resilience through the adoption of climate resilient farming systems and practices. The project targets to reach and impact 1,500 smallholder farmers in Makueni. kitise rural development is implementing a governance and rights project which seeks to promote just and accountable governance through public participation which will directly impact the lives of 1500 citizens in the 2 wards of Kitise/Kithuki and Makindu wards. The Kenya Community Advisory Group (CAB) for The Recruitment and Retention of Alzheimer's Disease Diversity Genetic Cohorts in the ADSP (READD_ADSP) recently held its first meeting. This group consists of individuals who possess a strong understanding of dementia and can help mobilize members of the Makueni community to participate in the project-READD_ADSP. The project aims to use blood-related biomarkers to detect how Alzheimer's disease (AD) presents itself in people of African ancestry.This study is the first of its kind in Africa and will examine the genetic makeup of Africans with AD.The results of this study will enrich our scientific knowledge of dementia and could potentially lead to the development of new treatments. #alzheimersawareness #alzheimersdisease READD-ADSP Africa #brainhealthmatters #brainhealth Government Of Makueni County
