Today we mark #MenstrualHealthDay as we stand with all girls who experience challenges in accessing sanitary products during menstruation. Lack of adequate menstrual care for girls especially in low income communities has increased overtime with the rise in economic hardships. According to Actionaid,One in 10 girls in Africa miss school because they don’t have access to menstrual products, or because there aren’t safe, private toilets to use at school. In Kenya alone, approximately 50% of school-age girls do not have access to menstrual products. Inadequate menstrual care has led to an increase in health risks for girls who are affected which affects their education and well being. Today we get a chance to show how important menstrual care is and raise awareness on the problems encountered by girls in low income areas. At Hedhi Africa Foundation we stand for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld by working towards ensuring we reach out to as many girls as we can and provide them with menstrual care kits. We stand with the world to break down the stigma associated with menstruation and taboos that hinder the provision of adequate menstrual health products to girls. To join us,you can share your support to 0720263474 and find us today at Oletepes Primary School. #menstrualhealth #menstrualhealthday

Teenage pregnancy is when a person younger than 20 years old becomes pregnant. This type of pregnancy includes children who are also 10 years of age or younger and are pregnant. Teenage pregnancy causes harm to a girl, as it can lead to death. Most girls who give birth at this young age often experience preterm labor and end up giving birth to underweight children. Aside from that, teenage pregnancies lead to poverty, malnutrition, and even severe depression for the affected parties. At Hedhi Africa Foundation, we aim to educate girls on the risks of engaging in sexual activities at a young age and embrace abstinence. Through the drives that we organize and participate in, we get to reach out to as many girls as possible and encourage them to have healthy relationships and practice abstinence to protect their physical and mental health. Join us on May 28th as we visit Oletepes Primary School for a Gift a Girl Campaign. We aim to provide a dignity pack to all #girls in attendance and #educate them on sexual and reproductive health with all the changes bodies go through at puberty. We look forward to your support as we anticipate impacting 450 girls through this campaign. #LeaveNoGirlBehind #Children #SexualReproductiveHealth

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome(PCOS)is a silent catalyst to mental health disorders in women and girls that is rarely talked about but at Hedhi Africa Foundation we aim to educate the society on ways to live through it.PCOS is not a life threatening disorder but it can be a root cause to life threatening medical conditions like hypertension. PCOS is a hormonal imbalance disorder in girls and women who are at a reproductive age.It affects 5-10% of women according to National Institute of Health. It includes symptoms such as irregular periods, acne and obesity. For many women PCOS complications deny them the joy of being mothers. A key sign of PCOS is irregular periods but here are a few other symptoms: •Weight gain or obesity •Excessive hair growth on the face, chest, abdomen and nipple area •Alopecia, thinning hair on the head •High blood pressure. Sadly a cure has not been found yet but there are several ways to manage it such as Dieting, regularly exercising and taking medication. PCOS has been sighted to lower girls' self esteem leading to depression but they should worry not because it is a complication like any other, through self care, medication and talking to a mental health professional can help cope through the illness. #HedhiAfricaFoundation #Health #PCOS #Rights #Children

The problem of silence surrounding menstruation contributes to stigma globally. Even with the evolution in society, there are still negative social views around menstruation, the shame associated with it is deeply ingrained in the minds of both girls and boys. This still remains something girls get embarrassed about and are unable to talk about it. In some communities when girls are in their menstruation period, they are considered dirty, unclean and impure. At Hedhi Africa Foundation, we aim to embrace all signs that come with menstruation and seek to provide adequate information to the public about the health rights of every girl. Through school visits, Hedhi Africa Foundation desires to educate both boys and girls that menstruation is not a stigmatization sentence but a normal occurrence in a woman’s body. We are seeking partners to join us in this course and help us reach out to as many girls as possible especially in rural areas and educate them on their bodies, choices and health to break the stigma. #SexualHealth #children #ReproductiveRights #YouthEmpowerment #HedhiAfrica
