HIAS joined hands with refugees and the community in Umoja, Nairobi, to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This year’s theme, “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future,” provided a powerful platform to champion the rights, resilience, and contributions of persons with disabilities within refugee communities. This day served as a reminder of the collective responsibility to ensure that persons with disabilities are not left behind. HIAS extends its gratitude to all participants and partners UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, Refugee-Led Organization Network of Kenya (RELON-Kenya), Kituo Cha Sheria Legal Advice Centre, NCCK Kenya who made this day a success, showcasing the strength that comes from inclusion and community solidarity. Together, we are building a more inclusive future where everyone is valued and supported. We continue to celebrate abilities, not limitations. #IDPD2024 #InclusionMatters U.S. Department of State-BPRM, EU in Emergencies

As we work to enhance the global response to displaced populations, we recently conducted an intensive training for resettlement referral partners. This initiative was aimed at equipping partners with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively identify and refer individuals and families in need of resettlement. Interactive sessions, case studies, and collaborative exercises provided participants with practical skills and strategies to navigate the complexities of the resettlement process. The training also fostered networking opportunities, encouraging partners to share experiences and best practices. We appreciate U.S. Department of State-BPRM for the continued support. Today, HIAS Kenya joined the global community in marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This day reminds us of the urgent need to stand in solidarity with survivors and take action to prevent violence against women and girls everywhere. Across the globe, 1 in 3 women experience violence in their lifetime, a statistic that underscores the persistence of gender-based violence as a critical human rights issue. For refugee and displaced women, the risks are even higher due to instability, lack of protection, and limited access to justice. #EndGBV #16Days U.S. Department of State-BPRM, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), World Vision, Nairobi City County

Displaced women and girls are at a higher risk of experiencing gender-based violence (GBV). That’s why HIAS advocates for the rights of women, girls, and communities with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions to access their full potential and live free from violence. Watch to learn more about our work to end GBV. We appreciate U.S. Department of State-BPRM and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency for the support. #16Days #EndGBV
