  • The debate session was a dynamic and thought-provoking exchange, with multiple debates taking place simultaneously in different rooms, each tackling some of the most pressing issues facing Kenya today.🔥🗣 In one room, delegates engaged in a critical discussion on The Nairobi Declaration on Climate Change, examining the challenges Africa faces in addressing climate change. The debate explored the continent’s vulnerabilities, policy gaps, and the urgent need for stronger climate action.📜 Meanwhile, another room hosted the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Debate, where participants debated whether the rising cases of GBV should be seen primarily as a moral crisis or a criminal justice dilemma. Discussions delved into legal frameworks, societal norms, and the effectiveness of current measures to combat GBV.⚖ At the same time, another group of delegates tackled the Democracy Debate, passionately arguing whether democracy is the most effective system of governance for ensuring sustainable economic growth in Africa. While some defended its role in promoting stability and accountability, others questioned its practicality in addressing Africa’s unique political and economic realities.📊 Elsewhere, a heated discussion unfolded on Corruption, where delegates debated whether corruption in Africa is merely a social issue or a "necessary evil" ingrained in governance structures. The discourse examined its impact on economic development, political integrity, and public trust.📚 Simultaneously, another debate focused on Climate Finance, with delegates assessing whether the current climate finance architecture is adequately designed to bridge financing gaps in the Global South. Discussions explored accessibility, fairness, and the effectiveness of international climate funding mechanisms.💵 In yet another room, the final debate centered on the HPV Vaccine, where delegates debated whether making the vaccine mandatory for girls under ten years old in Africa would be a necessary step in reducing cervical cancer prevalence. The debate weighed public health benefits against ethical and logistical concerns.🎗 With passionate arguments unfolding across different rooms, the debate session served as an intellectually stimulating and enlightening experience for all participants. #KMUN #TMD #24thsession

  • Before the debate rounds commenced, we held an insightful panel discussion, expertly moderated by our own Vanessa Amuse✨. The panel featured distinguished speakers, including Dr. Joan Sima, Director of Research and Data; Mitchell, Director of Cancer Prevention and Control; Emily, Director of Strategy, Planning, and Resource Mobilization; and Mr. Maboko Olum from the National Cancer Institute.🙌🏽 The discussion covered several key topics, including cancer data management, the five priority cancers in Kenya, and the National Cancer Institute’s role as a statutory body. Panelists also explored cervical cancer, its connection to the human papillomavirus (HPV), symptoms, screening methods, and public awareness campaigns📢. Additionally, they discussed the National Cancer Control Strategy, the significance of evidence-based medicine, and approaches to enhancing cancer awareness through local dialect communication and policy advisory initiatives⚖. The panel discussion concluded with an engaging Q&A session. The panelists answered audience questions on critical topics such as genital warts, HPV transmission, and how medicine works by stimulating antibody development before exposure. As members transitioned to the debate segments, they were highly informed on all matters related to cancer💡😁. Emily Barsito Mabuko S. Olum. NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE OF KENYA DR.
