It was a great honor to participate in the Waste Management Digital Urban Utilities Forum (DUUF) organized by KARA KENYA and GSMA . The forum offered an excellent opportunity for solid waste management practitioners and resident associations to discuss how digital innovation can improve waste management practices, the ongoing implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), and the involvement of waste pickers and resident associations in the digital economy. It also focused on the implementation of sustainable solid waste management practices in informal settlements and the role of public-private partnerships in managing solid waste in urban areas. Eleven years ago, we recognized a gap in environmental education, particularly content that resonates with Africa. From humble beginnings, we launched Mazingira Yetu (Our Environment) magazine, starting with just 8 pages, but we were optimistic about its potential given the positive response it received.
