As the year draws to a close, we are reflecting on a truly heartwarming experience from December 14th, 2024. We held a charity football tournament in Rongai, at the Nyumba ya Tumaini Children's Home. Shout out to the Mind Haven Ke and The Smiles Impact Organisation TSI for bringing this idea to life. We also want to thank Omondi Peter for helping us in the early planning stage of this charity tournament. It was a day filled with joy, camaraderie, and a powerful reminder of the role sports can play in promoting well-being and sustainable development. We were not just playing a game but building bridges and breaking down barriers, showcasing the spirit of Action 11 from the Pact for the Future, which recognizes that "culture as well as sport offers individuals and communities a strong sense of identity and foster social cohesion." It was inspiring to see how a simple football match could promote mental health and foster unity, playing alongside the talented team from Nyumba ya Tumaini Children's Home. The event reinforced the UN’s recognition that "sport can contribute to individuals’ and communities’ health and well-being." It underscored that our efforts to promote sustainable development should include the power of sports to create a more inclusive and healthier world. This resonates strongly with the Football for the Goals initiative, a United Nations platform that recognizes the power of football to advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This initiative encourages the global football community to align their operations with the SDGs to become "agents of change." As members of this initiative commit to using their influence to raise awareness of the SDGs, our small initiative demonstrates the potential for change that can be generated even at the local level. The principles of Football for the Goals include: ●Sustainability policies and practices ●Implementing and advocating for the SDGs ●A human rights-based approach ●Equality and equity, including gender ●Climate action We aim to emulate this spirit in our local efforts to promote well-being and development. As the year draws to an end and the new one begins, let's remember the power of collective effort, the joy of sport, and the importance of fostering a world where everyone can thrive. This Christmas season, let’s continue to use every tool at our disposal, including sports, to build a better future for all. #SustainableDevelopment #MentalHealth #SportForDevelopment #FootballForTheGoals #UN #ChristmasVibes #CommunityEngagement #ActNow #OurCommonFuture #Club17ImPactCoalition Global Youth Forum | The King's Trust | The Carbon Trust | Virgin Unite | Wellcome Trust | UNSDG Health Partnership
