As the world marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we invite you to join the call to champion the welfare and prosperity of persons with disabilities. In traditional African communities, individuals who appeared physically or intellectually different were often isolated, surrounded by myths, and denied opportunities. Today, we recognize their capabilities. They've gone to school, they have assistive technology, they have families, and they are making significant contributions to making the lives of others better. Let us acknowledge that they too deserve a decent & impactful life. Let's support them, include them, create a fair playfield, leverage their knowledge and skills, and embrace working alongside them. Happy #IDPWDs

Jilinde! In Kenya, one million four hundred thousand (1,400,000) adults and children are living with HIV/AIDS, according to UNAIDS 2023. This is a reminder that the HIV epidemic remains a major cause of illness in Kenya, 40 years after the first case was detected in 1984. New cases of HIV are still occurring every day. To keep yourself safe from infection, use condoms, abstain from sex, be faithful to one uninfected sexual partner, do not share needles and piercing objects, and avoid direct contact with wounds and blood from others. These efforts are crucial in controlling the epidemic and ensuring a healthier future for all. Remember to support and show care to those undergoing treatment. #Jilinde

There is a need to empower people financially through employment, skills for financial management and resources to start their own businesses. Many victims of gender-based violence remain in abusive situations due to financial dependence. They fear how they will survive if they leave, question, or report their abusers. We encourage everyone to utilise their knowledge skills to engage in income-generating activities and save to achieve financial independence, take control of their lives, and protect themselves from harm. #16DaysOfActivismAgainstGBV

Seek peaceful ways to resolve conflicts to avoid unnecessary stress that might lead to violence. When you wrong each other, be humble and committed to finding solutions rather than being proud. #16DaysOfActivismAgainstGBV

What is the Urgency for Climate Action? Climate change is making life harder and Earth less livable. Extreme weather events like droughts and floods, rising temperatures, and the loss of plants and animals are disrupting our food, water, and homes. How is Climate Change Happening? It’s caused by human activities like careless waste disposal, cutting down too many trees, using single-use plastics, and releasing harmful gases from cars, factories, and burning fuels. These actions trap heat and harm the environment. What Do We Need to Do? We must create awareness, take action, and stop polluting. Plant trees, switch to clean energy, ban single-use plastics, and act now to save our planet. 📸 Malembo Simbano Visit: https://shorturl.at/q2WEC Roots

"Most of the time, yes, you might have an innovation that is very life-changing, but without certain legal protection, you become vulnerable," says Benedict Oduor from Latewa Arts CBO. Take charge of your innovation or creative work today by securing the legal protections needed to safeguard it from theft. Many have lost transformative ideas to malicious individuals simply because they ignored or were unaware of the importance of protecting their work. Even your organizations, ensure that they are formally registered. Otherwise you might find that someone else has already taken your name. Benedict spoke during the World Creativity and Innovation Day celebrations, an event we proudly partnered on with Isisa Limited earlier this year.

"Indigenous Peoples and Local People have been practicing conservation, but for them, it's not conservation—it's a lifestyle," says Mitchelle Peris Mudibo Tendet, CEO of Tendet Foundation. She emphasizes the importance of preserving culture and indigenous knowledge to promote nature-based solutions. In today’s era, there’s a growing temptation to over-rely on modern and chemical solutions, which may be harmful, while local, organic, and safe alternatives exist. Let us embrace culture for healthier and more sustainable livelihoods.

We were honored to participate in the 2nd Media and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) Conference held in Nairobi this week. Our presence was particularly significant given our mission to leverage media as a tool to inspire action on social issues through empowering people with knowledge, as most of you may know. Keynote speakers and panelists shared key insights on pressing issues including: 1. The importance of collaboration between media and CSOs to advance human rights and civic freedoms in Kenya, with a shared commitment to integrity and sincerity. 2. The necessity for ethical and responsible media practices, especially in this era of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence.
