Orphaned young adults who have had a difficult start to life deserve the opportunity to access New Routes for their lives. In the Kenyan county we work in, only 1.3% of all school students go on to complete a university degree, and the opportunities for orphans are almost non-existent. About us
We aim to end the cycle of generational poverty in Kenya by providing our students with all the skills, experiences and finances required to finish their education and gain a head start in their career paths. We aim to do this by providing: - Extra-curricular courses (e.g. discipleship groups, financial management, soft skills, health & well-being) - Regular one-on-one mentoring - An internship in the field they wish to pursue - Opportunity to complete a personal project (e.g. an entrepreneurial idea, community project, sports talent, creative idea) - Funding any remaining university tuition fees (after government subsidies) as well as personal maintenance costs (e.g. accommodation, food, transport) and additional course-related costs - A ‘course-starter pack’ containing items required to complete university successfully (e.g. laptop, course textbooks).
