The pan-African science fund. Raising quality of doctoral training, research and innovation in African universities.
About us
The Regional Scholarship and Innovation Fund (Rsif) is the first Pan-African science fund that provides doctoral scholarships, research and innovation grants for African scientists in the areas of: 1. ICTs (including big data and artificial intelligence) 2. Food security and agribusiness 3. Minerals, mining and materials engineering 4. Energy including renewables 5. Climate change Rsif is a flagship initiative of The Partnership for skills in Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (PASET) and is implemented by the Rsif regional Coordination Unit (RCU) hosted at icipe with funding from the World Bank and the Governments of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Korea and the European Union through the ACP Innovation Fund. Rsif implementation is done through partnership with African Host Universities and International Partner Institutions. Our vision: A sustainable pan-African science fund that will raise the quality of doctoral training and research in African universities and institutions. Our mission: To strengthen the institutional capacity for quality and sustainable doctoral training, research and innovation in transformative technologies in sub-Saharan Africa. Rsif objectives: 1) Create a stock of highly skilled scientists, professionals and innovators in ASET areas. 2) Identify and nurture young talented Africans who wish to further their studies in ASET fields where expertise is needed most. 3) Address imbalances in the number of women and disadvantaged groups in ASET fields in Africa. 4) Build African university capacity to provide relevant ASET training and to ensure continued investment in scaling up the ASET education and workforce.
