With the support of YWCA, HIVOs, and AYICC Kenya, we proudly joined the youth, women, and indigenous communities of Jumuia ya Kaunti za Pwani in a two-day consultative dialogue on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) through the project: "Deepening the role of youth, women, indigenous, and marginalized communities in post-Paris climate dialogue processes." This enriching journey allowed us to focus on the National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP) 2023-2027, identifying key priorities and actionable steps to drive sustainable climate action. A heartfelt thank-you to the facilitators and participants who made this dialogue impactful. Together, we’re strengthening inclusive climate governance and amplifying marginalized voices in the fight against climate change! PESAID participated in the Kajiado County CSOs Training on Conference of Parties (COP) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), organized by the Arid Lands Information Network (ALIN) with support from Oxfam IBIS under the “Democracy, Just Societies, and Climate Justice” project. The two-day event held on 13th and 14th December 2024, focused on Kenya’s climate commitments under the Paris Agreement, including its updated goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 32% by 2030. Key topics discussed included clean energy solutions, sustainable farming to boost food security, protecting the environment through waste management and conservation, and ensuring access to clean water and sanitation. Preparations for COP29 were also a major focus, with participants discussing how global cooperation and local action can help achieve climate goals. This training provided an opportunity to learn and share ideas on tackling climate change and promoting sustainable development. PESAID remains committed to applying these insights in our work to support vulnerable communities. #ClimateJustice #SustainableDevelopment #COP29 #PESAID #Alin #Oxfam

  • Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Action Aid (PESAID) recently participated in a Post-COP29 analysis session in Nairobi, organized by Hivos, African Youth Initiative on Climate Change (AYICC), and Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA). The event focused on the key outcomes of COP29 and how they relate to Kenya’s ongoing climate challenges, which directly affect our mission at PESAID. One of the most significant developments from COP29 was the increase in climate adaptation finance, with developed nations committing to $300 billion annually by 2030. While this represents a positive step forward, it is still below the $1.3 trillion initially demanded by developing countries. This funding is critical for nations like Kenya, which face serious climate impacts such as extreme droughts, flooding, and the loss of biodiversity. At PESAID, we are committed to ensuring that these climate funds reach vulnerable populations, especially people with disabilities, marginalized groups, and the elderly, who are often the most affected by climate change. As we continue to work towards a more resilient and sustainable future, we will advocate for inclusive and effective climate action that addresses the needs of these communities. Let’s stay focused on driving positive change and holding global leaders accountable to their climate commitments. #PESAID #COP29 #KenyaClimateAction #ClimateFinance #InclusiveClimateAction #SustainableFuture #ClimateJustice #HIVOS #AYICC #YWCA

PESAID was delighted to join International Justice Mission (IJM) and other grassroots organizations in a powerful procession walk from Kengeleni to Frere Town, Mombasa County, as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. This year’s theme, “Ending Violence Against Women and Girls,” resonates deeply with PESAID’s mission, as we continue to advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and elderly persons—groups that often face compounded challenges in the context of GBV. As the world marks International Day for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) on December 3rd, we reiterate our commitment to supporting and empowering vulnerable groups, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are protected. Together, let’s #EndGBV and build a more inclusive and equitable society! #16DaysOfActivism #EndingViolence #PWDsMatter #ElderlyCare #GBVFreeSociety

  • Yesterday, on International Day of People with Disabilities (3rd December 2024), PESAID joined the Kilifi County government and local nonprofits to celebrate the value and rights of people with disabilities. The event took place at Kwa Dadu Kijego in Ganze Sub county, a place with a tragic past. Many years ago, children born with disabilities were taken to this riverbed and drowned because they were wrongly believed to be cursed or bad omens. Their bodies were buried there, and this harmful practice caused much pain in the community. Yesterday, this same place became a symbol of hope and change as the community united to honor the rights and dignity of all people. Over 2,500 people attended the event, enjoying performances and speeches about inclusion and respect for people with disabilities. The community made a strong promise of “visikali kaheri” (never to happen again), committing to end harmful practices and support everyone equally. During the event, PESAID donated a wheelchair from Dance Ability Azerbaijan to Kalume Tumaini, a young boy who urgently needed it. This act of kindness gave him the support he needed and showed what true inclusion looks like. A statue was also unveiled at the site with the words “Never to happen again.” It stands as a permanent reminder of the community’s commitment to protect and value people with disabilities. Help us continue spreading this message and supporting the inclusion of people with disabilities in Kenya and beyond! #IDPwD2024 #DisabilityInclusion #RespectForAll #VisikaliKaheri #PESAID #KCDN #NCPWD
