Platcorp's Impact on African Agriculture & Smallholder Farmers Agriculture is vital to Africa, providing livelihoods for over 70% of the population. However, the sector faces significant challenges such as climate change, lack of access to markets, and limited access to financial services. In 2023, Platcorp committed $9.37 million USD in agricultural loans, benefiting 19,788 smallholder farmers and value chain actors. These funds empowered farmers to improve their farming practices, increase yields, access markets and improve inputs. Through the Viazi (Potato) and Maziwa (Dairy) Project in Keringet, Kenya, supported by Swedfund International and the Bamboo Capital Partners,113 farmers received financial and technical assistance. The initiative, focused on improving dairy and potato production, helped farmers adopt clean seed practices, optimize fertilizer use, and increase yields through pest management. 83% of the farmers reported higher yields, with 94% relying on farming as their primary source of income. Prioritizing #roadsafety is paramount to ensure employees' well-being and maintain a safe working environment. Implementing comprehensive road safety policies and procedures is essential for both employees who commute to the workplace and those engaged in business-related travel. Platcorp Group has implemented a robust and engaging Road Safety Training and Awareness campaign program since 2023. We have also recently launched a Mandatory Road Safety Course on our Learning Development Platform. Through subsidiaries’ PPE programs, staff access to PPE such as helmets and reflective vests/jackets has been improving over time. These initiatives are contributing to a major shift towards a ‘safety first’ culture and #reducedaccident risk for our #workforce.

Energy efficiency, consumption, and management are central to Platcorp’s sustainability journey. By implementing #energyefficient practices, we can significantly lower our greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to global efforts to combat #climatechange. Platcorp is taking the initiative to upgrade office lighting to efficient equipment and purchase energy-efficient equipment. We collect and analyse energy consumption data in all our operations enabling us to identify areas for improvement and make informed decisions. Through regular employee engagement and education, we empower our teams to make energy-efficient choices at work and at home.

#Water covers 70% of the Earth's surface and only a small fraction of it is freshwater suitable for consumption and other vital uses. Population growth, industry, and climate change are putting pressure on scarce water supplies. Platcorp Group is leading the way in #savingwater. Since 2020, we've been tracking and managing how much water we use in our subsidiaries across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, and Zambia. By collecting detailed information on water usage, we can identify trends, pinpoint areas of high consumption, and implement targeted strategies for conservation. These include optimizing processes, investing in water-saving technologies, and promoting a culture of conservation among our employees and stakeholders.
