These companies do not boast of new model buses. However this one displine on revenue operations could be pushing them to rank highest in productivity This proves that its doable Operation excellence model is possible in any business.     Who takes away the loss when your PSV Matatu is stalled. The mode of ground operations for many PSV Saccos and companies is use of whip and shouting. Imagine a sacco with 100 drivers and conductors all managed on basis of who shouts more. Recently, around 10am, sacco operations manager stopped vehicle with passengers and instructed conductor to leave and meet in the office for displinary session. Conductor just smiled and while at the door, he said - '' do you think this is the only vehicle i can work for''. Driver couldnt continue and requested to change passengers to onother vehicle. This meant the vehicle was taken back to parking until driver gets replacement conductor. The vehicle did not make any income regardless of fact that some fixed costs continued to accrue- 1. Insurance 2. Loan repayment Who takes up these losses. Is there any control mechanism to ensure operations of your vehicle are managed for profitability. Do you have visibility to ensure such issues are monitored This is critical - if your PSV Matatu keeps losing income from such, your end in this investment is guaranteed.     The Kenya government initiated regulations for PSVs (public service vehicles) in densely populated cities, but been more difficult to regulate them in rural areas. In Kenya, matatus are minibuses that are a common form of public transportation in cities like Nairobi. Matatus have prescribed routes, but don't have designated stops, fares, loading and unloading points not regulated and operator staff semi regulated on qualification. Instead, they depend on the passengers' requests and demand. Matatus are owned by individual investors on voluntary basis. Success in this mainly rely on investor skill to manage that one bus. Sustainability rate is about 50% based on that model. The industry contributes to over $ 1.7M annual revenue. Nairobi transport >4.5M pax daily Industry has high hemorrhage of daily revenue due to high level of inflatration of un regulated groups We monitored all these flow and realised a very strong line to unlock performance of individual bus = Using safety approach achieve PROFITABILITY & SUSTAINABILITY That is what we have been upto.
