The youth unemployment rate in Mombasa stands at approximately 49%, nearly double the national average, reflecting the county's lagging economic growth. To address this critical issue, I had the privilege of supporting the implementation of the Youth Social Economic and Empowerment Project (YSEEP) in Mombasa County, specifically in Kisauni and Likoni sub-counties. Funded by the Danish Red Cross in Kenya , YSEEP is a transformative initiative aimed at tackling youth unemployment and associated social challenges. The project equips young people with vocational skills, promotes entrepreneurship, and provides educational opportunities to enhance their employability and self-sufficiency. It also supports young entrepreneurs with business planning and mentorship, fostering self-reliance and innovation. Beyond economic empowerment, YSEEP emphasizes community engagement, encouraging youth participation in development projects to instill a sense of social responsibility. Additionally, the initiative integrates health and well-being components, offering access to healthcare services, mental health support, and awareness programs addressing issues such as substance abuse. Hosted by the Kenya Red Cross Mombasa branch, YSEEP collaborates with local government agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners to create a supportive ecosystem for youth empowerment. This collective effort aims to improve the socio-economic status of Mombasa’s youth, nurturing a generation of skilled, motivated, and empowered individuals ready to contribute to their community's growth and development. Innovation Lab Assistant At Kenya Red Cross

🌟 IFRC Limitless Winners Update 🌟 I promised an update on the incredible winners we are mentoring at the Kenya Red Cross innovation Center. Meet Javan. He’s transforming waste into wealth by making paper briquettes from paper waste. Last week, Javan held a workshop where he trained 10 enthusiastic youths on his innovative process. After the workshop, the students tested the paper briquettes at a local street food vendor, gathering valuable feedback from the community. At this stage the winners are prototyping their ideas, testing and collecting feedbacks. IFRC Solferino Academy Kenya Red Cross Youth #cleanenergy #cleancooking #cleanburning

Human-centered Design | Digital Product Executive | Humanitarian

What an inspiring week spent in Geneva with International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC and many national society colleagues from around the world using #humancentereddesign practices to develop program and product strategy for integrated humanitarian assistance. So excited to co-build with them. Everyone was game to try new things as we learn to push ourselves beyond traditional ways of thinking and put people and communities we serve at the center of adapting our mission to global climate, health, migration, and conflict crises. #humanitarian #journeymapping

The Red Cross is Illuminating Kenya's Mental Health Map with a new MHPSS framework! The Kenya Red Cross' MHPSS unit pours a lot of time and heart into providing mental health and psychosocial support to those in need. Have a read about their new framework, operating an MHPSS helpline during the COVID-19 pandemic, and some of the stigma connected to mental health. 📖 https://lnkd.in/drjkB8rr #mentalhealthmatters, #MHPSS, #kenya, #IFRC, #ICRC, #RedCrescent, #RedCross, #volunteers, #stigma
