We are excited about the opportunity to take school sanitation a notch higher by incorporating circular economy in the sanitation solution. We are working with our partners Mobile Alert Toilets and Toilets for All to provide (new and rehabilitated) water-based toilet facilities for semi-rural based 1400-capacity Ikinu Primary School in Githunguri area of Kiambu County, Kenya. The solution also includes a biogas system from Sistema.bio / Sistema Biobolsa to support the school’s feeding program. We have also included an echo-friendly incinerator for menstrual hygiene management. Our goal is to document evidence of circular economy benefits for large capacity schools situated in socially marginalised contexts. We invite interested organisations to join us as funding and/or implementing partners to improve #WASH in schools. Hey friends and sanitation warriors! We are thrilled to announce our biggest project yet. Ikinu primary school with 1400 pupils located in Githinguri, Kiambu county is currently undergoing construction and renovation of latrines. We are excited to announce that this project will include the installation of a biogas system and an incinerator for the school. Students, especially girls will have adequate clean toilets for use and an incinerator for incinerating their menstrual pads. The biogas system will convert faecal sludge to gas which will be used to cook hot lunches for students as part of their school feeding programme. We are grateful to our partners and community for making this happen especially Toilets for All who are funding and providing support for the project. Watch this space for more updates.
