Sun King is honoured to have received the Financial Times and The World Bank MIGA’s Financing Access to Clean Energy Award and the Judges’ Award for Excellence at the Africa Sustainable Futures Award for our ‘pay-as-you-go powered securitisation’. Africa, the world's fastest-growing continent, has the largest off-grid population but attracts only a disproprionately small share of global clean energy investment. Sun King is committed to developing new investment solutions that spur investment where it is most needed, advance energy access, and support Africa’s green transition. We extend our gratitude to the judges – Runa Alam, Mo Ibrahim, Yvonne Ike, Donal Kaberuka, Yasmin Kumi, Lexi Novitske, CFA, David Pilling, and Ethiopis Tafara – for their time and recognition. Sun King extends our gratitude to all our lenders, both from commercial and development finance institutions, for their critical contributions towards enhancing access to reliable energy: Absa Bank Kenya, British International Investment, Citi, FMO - Dutch entrepreneurial development bank, Norfund, Stanbic Bank Kenya, and Trade and Development Bank Group - TDB Group.

In the Asia Pacific, microfinance customers, often at the bottom of the financial pyramid, are on the frontlines of climate change. Increasing weather shocks and shifting climatic conditions threaten their often weather-dependent livelihoods, jeopardising their income stability. Microfinance institutions play a crucial role in enabling these customers to invest in solar energy solutions that enhance community resilience against weather disruptions and improve disaster preparedness. At this week's Sa-Dhan National Conference on Inclusive Growth, Sahil Khanna, Sun King’s General Manager for Asia and Latin America, emphasised the need for basic energy access for climate-vulnerable populations and the role of microfinance organisations in reducing affordability barriers blocking families and businesses from investing in life-changing energy solutions. He also highlighted the importance of helping individuals progress up the 'energy ladder' to access more powerful energy systems. Access to plentiful energy is vital to helping communities invest in technology, like irrigation and computers, to help them deal with and manage the fallout from climate change. #ClimateResilience #EnergyAccess #MicroFinance

Over a billion people rely on healthcare services with unreliable access to electricity. Solar is one answer, but many solar systems break after a few years of use as governments and NGOs fail to plan for maintenance and repairs. Sun King’s energy-as-a-service agreements bake operations and maintenance into contracts, ensuring consistent energy supply. Here’s Patrick Muriuki, Associate Vice President, Partnerships, to explain how Sun King is working with public institutions like schools and healthcare centres to establish robust and scalable energy solutions in off- or weak-grid areas, with the potential to benefit millions more people around the world.
