Every year on December 10th the Nobel Peace Prize is presented to that year's Nobel Laureate in Oslo, Norway. Exactly 20 years ago today the prize was presented to our very own Wangari Maathai, the first African Woman and first environmentalist to be so honored. Today, the Green Belt Movement, The Wangari Maathai Foundation and the Wangari Maathai Institute will be commemorating this honour and launching a year long series celebrating this incredible legacy. To read more about that historic moment, please click the link for the Op-Ed written by Mia MacDonald, reflecting on this day 20 years ago.
