Today, in partnership with BoardPro, the Governance Institute of Australia hosted our final Victorian event of the year for our key cohort, company secretaries and governance leaders. Thank you, BoardPro and session chair, Julie Garland McLellan, CEO of The Director's Dilemma for leading the discussion.   Together with Julie, panellists Hayley Lee Allen, CARE Australia and Tom May, UniSuper explored the practical issues of making governance work. Discussion topics included, engaging your board, changes in compliance and reporting requirements, and constructive stakeholder engagement. One of the many key takeaways; company secretaries have the role of framing issues for the board, enabling the board to make the necessary decisions for the company's operations and success. What did our panel consider to be the hot topics for boards next year? - climate, - scrutiny, and - financial accountability Thank you also to Rigvy Sobhee, Sarah McIntyre, Levi Sibeko, Lauren Muscat and Anji Kurian for making today's session a success. Are you looking to enhance your governance practices and ensure your organisation is on the right track? Whether you need advice on board responsibilities, compliance, risk management, or any other governance-related matter, feel free to reach out. Let's work together to achieve excellence in governance. Contact me today for more information.

  • We would like to thank the British Ambassador to Cambodia, Dominic Williams, for supporting the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign under the theme “We Are Walking with You.” Domestic violence is a serious issue both in Cambodia and around the world, which is why This Life is so passionate about the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence each year. A heartfelt thank you once again to Ambassador Dominic and everyone at the British Embassy in Cambodia. We are deeply grateful for your support, which will help raise awareness of the urgent need to end gender-based violence. We hope that your message will inspire greater participation in the campaign and, in particular, help make women safer and more protected. Together, we can make a difference and create a society free from gender-based violence. We Are Walking with You. #WeAreWalkingWithYou #យើងដើរជាមួយអ្នក #GenderEqualityNow #EmpowerHer #SheLeads

  • 🌍 Why Wait to Create Change? This inspiring article by our founder, Billy Gorter, challenges us to rethink generosity and legacy. Instead of waiting for "someday," what if we measured our impact in the now—through action, sacrifice, and purpose? ✨ Join the conversation: How do you define meaningful giving? Read the article, share your thoughts in the comments, and let’s celebrate acts of generosity that truly transform lives. #ThisLife #GivingWhileLiving #SocialImpact #Philanthropy

Legacy isn't measured in bank accounts, right? Exploring the stark contrasts between those who wait and those who give - from billionaires to subsistence farmers - and asking why we let wealth accumulate when the need for change is now. A reflection on what it truly means to leave a mark on This Life. I'll be inviting philosopher Peter Singer to join this conversation about ethical giving and immediate impact.

  • We're proud to amplify the insights shared by our director, Billy Gorter, at the United Nations People-Centered Justice Regional Conference. The discussions on justice reform highlighted our significant achievements in Cambodia while emphasizing the broader context of challenges faced across the Asia-Pacific region. As we advocate for proven solutions, we call on philanthropists and funders to prioritize scaling impactful initiatives over new pilots. Together, let's ensure that successful models receive the long-term support they need to transform lives throughout the region. #JusticeInnovation #PeopleCenteredJustice #SocialImpact #Cambodia #SDG16 #SystemsChange

Last week, I mentioned I'd be attending the United Nations People-Centered Justice Regional Conference on "Achieving Just Societies: Inclusive Justice Pathways for People and Planet in Asia and the Pacific," and what an inspiring and challenging few days it's been. had the privilege of sharing This Life's journey in transforming justice systems in Cambodia, both on the innovation panel and during intimate world cafe sessions. The numbers speak for themselves: we've reduced recidivism from 60% to less than 2% through our holistic approach to justice reform. Our Child-Friendly Spaces program has supported 64 mothers and more than 200 children both inside and outside prison walls. Notably, we established Cambodia's first-ever juvenile diversion program, working with hundreds of children to create alternatives to custodial sentences - proving that community-based solutions aren't just possible, they're more effective. Where there were zero diversion cases in Cambodia before, we've now created a pathway that's being adopted across multiple provinces. But here's the paradox that emerged clearly during the financing session: while we talk about scaling proven solutions, funding often chases new pilots rather than supporting the expansion of evidence-based programs already working on the ground. The shift toward funding startups, while important for innovation, shouldn't come at the expense of scaling proven community-driven initiatives. To my new connections from the conference (including the brilliant minds from TDRI, IJRS, LexisNexis, and Yunus Thailand) - thank you for the rich discussions on building stronger justice innovation ecosystems in Southeast Asia. You've reinforced my belief that solutions exist; they just need the right support to scale. A call to action for philanthropists and funders in this space: let's move beyond the pilot phase. We have proven models that work - programs that have transformed lives and systems. What we need now is strategic, long-term funding to take these solutions to scale. Communities know what works. The evidence is clear. The frameworks for success exist. The question now is: who will step up to help take these proven solutions to the next level? #JusticeInnovation #PeopleCenteredJustice #SocialImpact #Cambodia #SDG16 #SystemsChange Looking to learn more about evidence-based justice reform? Let's connect. The lives of countless families hang in the balance, and the solutions are ready to scale.

🌏 Honored to be contributing in two key sessions at the "Achieving Just Societies" conference at the United Nations Convention Centre in Bangkok this week (Nov 11-13), hosted by UNDP, Thailand Institute of Justice, UNEP, and UN Women Asia and the Pacific. On Nov 12th, I'll be joining the panel "Justice Reimagined: Fostering an Ecosystem for People-Centered Innovation" where we'll explore how to strengthen justice innovation ecosystems across Southeast Asia and discuss ways to make people-centered solutions more sustainable and scalable. I'm also facilitating a world cafe session sharing This Life's groundbreaking work on Child-Friendly Spaces in Cambodia's prisons. Our program has supported 64 mothers, 73 children within prison, and 119 children outside prison - demonstrating how institutional environments can be transformed to prioritise child wellbeing while supporting maternal rehabilitation. Looking forward to engaging with fellow justice advocates and exploring innovative approaches to making justice systems more inclusive and human-centered across Asia and the Pacific! If you want to support our work, please get in contact. #JusticeInnovation #PrisonReform #ChildRights #SocialJustice #Cambodia #UNDP #AsiaP
