KMDIA International Affairs Committee Chairman Kit Tang and Asia Pacific Medical Technology Association (APACMed) CEO Harjit Gill met in Singapore to celebrate APACMed’s 10th anniversary. Based on the long time partnership between two associations, they agreed to develop strategic cooperation plan. The 2nd edition of the closed-door Digital Health Reimbursement Policy Forum was successfully held by APACMed on June 20, 2024 in collaboration with Korea Medical Devices Industry Association(KMDIA), Medical Technology Association of Australia(MTAA), and Australia & American Medical Devices and Diagnostics Manufactures’ Association(AMDD) Japan. Each association prepared a meeting room for virtual multilateral discussion to share learnings and best practices, and jointly address challenges to advance reimbursement of digital health technologies for greater adoption in APAC region. From KMDIA, Reimbursement Committee and International Affairs Committee actively cooperated with APACMed for making this forum work. KMDIA’s special thanks goes to all your collaboration and contributions.

The 1st GHWP Innovation Medical Device Symposium Successfully Held To further converge global medical device regulations and actively support the innovative growth of the medical device sector, the Global Harmonization Working Party(GHWP) and Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions(RSE) jointly held the 1st GHWP Innovative Medical Device Symposium alongside a themed exhibition of the 89th CMEF(China International medical Equipment Fair) in Shanghai. The symposium was successfully held on April 12, 2024, attracting more than 200 experts from regulatory authorities and industries of GHWP member countries. Korea also contributed to the symposium by sharing MFDS’ innovative medical device regulatory updates and discussing in depth on regulatory reliance and industry globalization. Sunny Woo, Team Leader of International Affairs Team, Korea Medical Devices Industry Association(KMDIA) joined the symposium as a speaker and a panelist. She shared views from both global and Korean local industry about regulatory reliance and addressed what KMDIA has been doing for regulatory harmonization and globalization of Korean medical device industry.

‘KMDIA participated in the 25th IMDRF meetings.’ The 25th IMDRF(International Medical Device Regulators Forum) was held from March 11th to 15th in Washington DC. KMDIA attended the IMDRF meetings with MFDS(Ministry of Food and Drug Safety) as a representative of Korean medical device industry to promote global regulatory harmonization. KMDIA has been contributing to the IMDRF by working with DITTA and GMTA. Also, on the 2nd day of the meetings, a Korean industry expert(Chidae Park, RA Managing Director, Lutronic Corporation) shared Korean industry’s opinion on regulatory reliance and digital labels at the panel discussion.

Democratic Party of Korea Candidate Kim Yoon Signs Policy Agreement with KMDIA Commitment to Foster Entry into Top 7 Medical Device Industries and Implement Healthcare Reform Policies Democratic Party of Korea proportional representative candidate Kim Yoon and the Korea Medical Devices Industry Association (Chairman Kim Young-min) have signed a policy agreement to propel entry into the top 7 medical device industries and pursue healthcare reform. The agreement was reached on March 28th at the Korea Medical Devices Industry Association, attended by Kim Yoon (Democratic Party of Korea proportional representative candidate), Jung Soo-yeon (co-chair of the Healthcare Reform Subcommittee), Kim Young-min (Chairman of KMDIA), Kim Myung-jeong (Vice Chairman of KMDIA), and member companies. During the agreement ceremony, it was pledged to strive for export promotion to enter the top 7 medical device powerhouse countries in the world, thereby increasing good jobs and expanding the future prospects of our country. it will also effort to enhance national healthcare accessibility by rationalizing medical device costs and reducing the burden on national health insurance finances.
