Last Friday marked the conclusion of the Bio I-Corps program! In collaboration with The LaunchPort in Baltimore, MD, KIC DC welcomed 13 innovative biotech startups to the US to validate their product-market fit through extensive customer discovery interviews. Some teams gained the confidence to enter the US market, while others plan to pivot or explore markets with greater demand. The Bio I-Corps program has been in full swing since their arrival in the US! Following Labor Day, the 13 participating teams engaged in another insightful in-person session, sharing progress from their customer discovery interviews across the US. They later visited Georgetown University School of Medicine in the afternoon, where they pitched their startups to professors and explored collaboration opportunities. On September 4th, the teams attended the 2024 Technology Showcase at Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. They networked with scientists, researchers, and entrepreneurs from the DMV area and gained insights into the latest advancements in technology. Yesterday, the teams had the unique opportunity to present their innovations to researchers at the National Cancer Institute, receiving valuable feedback and seek potential partnerships. Professor Duk L. Na, co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of BeauBrain, shared his experience using Aducanumab on patients at the spring conference of Busan-Ulsan-Kyeongnam Dementia Association. It was based on the experience of administering medication to 168 people, which is expected to be the largest in the world for a single center. Differences depending on ApoE genotype, monthly dosage adjustment, side effect ARIA monitoring and immediate response, and effectiveness were shared. As a conclusion, 1. A new era of dementia treatment has opened up 2. Amyloid beta is removed for sure 3. ApoE genotype is a must 4. Centiloid value is a must (The Centiloid scale was developed to standardise the results of beta-amyloid (Aβ) PET, regardless of different ligands and machines) ==> [BeauBrain Amylo] 5. Now Alzheimer’s is no longer a concern just for the gray and white-haired - you and I might as well brace ourselves for a possibly forgetful future. The solutions seem hazy too.
