HD Hyundai Heavy Industries(HHI) secured an order for 12 large container ships worth approximately 3.716 trillion won from a European shipping company on January 22. The ships will be equipped with eco-friendly features, including an LNG dual-fuel propulsion engine. HHI plans to deliver the vessels sequentially by December 2028.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries(HHI) held a steel-cutting ceremony for the Peruvian shipbuilding project at Peru's state-run SIMA shipyard on January 10th. This event is a joint steel-cutting ceremony for HHI's three types of ships(frigate, offshore patrol vessel, and amphibious vessel) built in Peru. The ceremony was attended by Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, senior government officials, and Mr. Joo Won-ho, COO of HHI's Naval & Special Ship Business Unit. These vessels, scheduled for sequential delivery to the Peruvian Navy beginning in 2026, will be constructed locally at SIMA Shipyard. HHI will provide advanced design technologies and shipbuilding expertise to support the project.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries(HHI) held a delivery ceremony for 8,200-ton Aegis Destroyer JeongJo the Great(KDX-Ⅲ Batch-Ⅱ 1st) on November 27th. The ceremony was attended by key officials from the Korea Defense Acquisition Program Administration(DAPA) and the Navy Headquarters, along with more than 20 foreign government officials from nine countries, including the United States, Poland, Indonesia, Peru, Morocco, the Philippines, Chile, and Thailand. JeongJo the Great is South Korea's fourth independently designed and built Aegis destroyer and is equipped with the latest Aegis combat system. Delivered to the Navy on time after undergoing more than 550 rigorous trials and evaluations, the Jeongjo the Great destroyer is expected to serve as a key force in the Republic of Korea Navy.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries(HHI) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the TRION FPU(Floating Production Unit) offshore plant on November 13th at Ulsan. The unit measures 94 meters in length, 94 meters in width, and 57 meters in height, with a gross weight of over 44,000 tons. It can produce 100,000 barrels of crude oil and 4.1 million cubic meters (m³) of natural gas per day. HHI will build the entire Trion FPU, including the topside and hull, and plans to set sail for Mexico in the first half of 2027.

HD Hyundai heavy industries(HHI) recently received the AIP(Approval in principle) from ABS for two offshore wind float models(Model name : Hi-Float) at the 'OFFSHORE KOREA 2024' exhibition. HHI got verified for basic and conceptual design safety and performance feasibility for '15MW centric type' and '18MW eccentric type' floats. Following the development of a 10MW float in 2021, HHI has now developed 15MW and 18MW models, enabling HHI to proactively respond to the offshore wind market demand for larger generating capacity.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has developed an ammonia(a carbon-free fuel) dual-fuel engine. HHI recently completed approval testing of its HiMSEN ammonia dual-fuel engine(model name: H22CDF-LA) at its Ulsan headquarters in the presence of seven classification societies. This ammonia engine utilized high-pressure direct injection, which compresses the air in the engine's combustion chamber and then injects ammonia fuel at high pressure to burn. This method not only provides high engine power and fuel efficiency, but also significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions such as nitrous oxide(N2O).

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries(HHI) held a 'Promotion Day' in Warsaw, Poland on October 8 under the theme of 'A New Era of Korean-Polish Cooperation for the Polish Navy and Industry'. More than 80 key political and business figures, including Defense Committee Chairman 'Andrzej Grzyb' and Energy Committee Chairman 'Waldemar Skrzypczak' attended event. At the event, which was held ahead of the Polish Navy's upcoming tender for the ORKA project(a submarine modernization project), HHI showcased its 2,300-ton export submarine(HDS-2300) and total solution, and sought various possibilities for cooperation with Poland in the defense and energy sectors.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries(HHI) won its 21st consecutive gold medal at the 47th WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France. HHI's has sent three contestants for the competition and all three won the prize. Kim Jun-su(20) won a gold medal for 'CNC Turning' occupation, Kang do-young(20) won a silver medal for 'Plumbing and Heating', and Kim Dong-hyeon (20) won a bronze medal for 'Construction Metal work'.  HHI's unprecedented records are possible not only through the players' efforts but also its systematic support such as one-on-one customized training with former medalists. HHI will continue to provide various support to foster professional technicians.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries(HHI) held the '2024 HD Hyundai Symposium-Electrification of Warship' on September 2 at Ulsan. At the meeting, 150 participants, including naval officials and international experts on all-electric warships from the UK, the US, and Italy, shared the ideas. Previously, HHI successfully completed the basic design of the Korean Next Generation Destroyer 'KDDX'. It will be equipped with the world's first 25MW high-capacity and high-power propulsion motor.

The first foreign site leader born! The numbers of foreign workers with a big dream of working at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries(HHI) are increasing recently. Mr. Kumara, from Sri Lanka, was appointed as the team leader at HHI's in-house partner. Coming to Korea in 2011, he is now the leader of 28 team members. Mr. Kumara is the first foreigner to be a site team leader at HHI. Currently, more than 4,000 foreigners from many contries are working at the HHI. HHI plans to continue to foster technical personnel from oveseas and will provide various opportunities for them to develop their careers.
