This year, we made a significant step forward in our mission to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. Our total global trash catch in 2024 amounted to over 11 million kilograms—more than all previous years combined. Here’s how we got here: - Optimized Ocean Operations: We refined System 03 in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, completing 112 extractions to date... - ... and declared that we now have the tools to clean up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch — at a cost of just $7.5 billion. - Expanded River Operations: We deployed new Interceptors in Thailand, Jamaica, and Guatemala, including Interceptor 021 at the mouth of the Rio Motagua, helping protect coral reefs in the Gulf of Honduras. - Protecting Ecosystems & Livelihoods: Beyond intercepting plastic, we’re actively protecting ecosystems and improving local livelihoods with the support of our partners. But as a non-profit organization, we can only do this work thanks to your support, donations, and spreading awareness, which brings us all closer to clean oceans. Stay tuned for 2025 as we work on solving this planet-sized problem together.

Ad | Muuun Hotel is the latest building to feature in Dezeen and Kia’s video series highlighting contemporary South Korean architecture. Located in the city of Gyeongju, South Korea, Muuun Hotel was designed by local practices Nomal and Onjuim Housing Studio. The hotel combines contemporary architectural elements with features typical of a South Korean hanok (or traditional Korean house) such as a vernacular tiled roof and exposed wood ceiling beams.  Dezeen has paired Muuun Hotel with Kia’s EV3, an all-electric compact SUV, which features in the video alongside the building. The Kia EV3 sports a minimal appearance at its front and rear with headlights that emerge from vertical slits and linear tail lights. Video produced by Dezeen. #Kia #Design #EV3

Ad | Dezeen and Kia have teamed up to launch a video series highlighting contemporary architecture in South Korea, starting with Sayuwon, an arboretum and architecture park set in the mountains outside of the city of Daegu. The park’s 700,000 square kilometre footprint is home to buildings, artworks, landscaped gardens and hiking routes. Amongst the structures it houses are several designed by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza, including a monolithic concrete art pavilion atop a hill built in collaboration with Carlos Castanheira Architects and additional works by South Korean architects Seung H-Sang and Choi Wook. Dezeen’s video situates Kia’s EV9 model alongside the buildings at Sayuwon. The Kia EV9 is a fully electric SUV with a polygonal form and partially faceted edges.
