SK hynix has been awarded up to $458 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce under the CHIPS and Science Act. This investment will support the establishment of a cutting-edge memory packaging plant for artificial intelligence (AI) products and an advanced packaging R&D facility in West Lafayette, Indiana. Today, the Biden-Harris Administration announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce awarded SK hynix up to $458 million in direct funding under the CHIPS Incentives Program’s Funding Opportunity for Commercial Fabrication Facilities. The award comes after the previously signed preliminary memorandum of terms, announced on August 6, 2024, and the completion of the Department’s due diligence. This funding supports SK hynix’s investment of approximately $3.87 billion in West Lafayette, Indiana, to build a memory packaging plant for artificial intelligence (AI) products and an advanced packaging fabrication and R&D facility, filling a critical gap in the U.S. semiconductor supply chain.
