I spent 5 nights here November 11-15. Stayed at the ITC Windsor in October but picked Vivanta for it's location. Because of staying at two Bangalore hotels a month apart it is hard not to draw parallels. The staff at Vivanta felt like they were just going through the motions of doing their job - which they did as expected, but it was absolutely devoid of friendliness and charm. The greetings were curt and not one of the many reception staff engaged in any conversation, compared to the ITC folks, where within a week I was asking staff how they enjoyed their trip home. Would I stay here again? Unlikely, as the first impression was - not a welcoming place despite central location. Reception staff aside, the dining room staff were very friendly considering how busy the mornings were. To note are two staff who I chatted with for a while - Uday at breakfast said he loves working there and it showed in his interaction with several guests. He spoke of being nothing before he joined the Tata Group and says he owes everything to the company. Clearly walks the talk. Anand at dinner one night said that for him, it is not merely a place of work, it is his temple. He is grateful for every opportunity the Taj group has offered him and will never forget the kind treatment the company offered him and his family and the families of all staff during that very difficult period. Uday has been there for 10 years and Anand for 15. Their love and reverence for their employer was palpable and so lovely to hear. Often people comment on the rooms and the ambiance and the food. Well, for a 5 star hotel it is expected because there are certain standards and yes, Vivanta indeed met them. The interaction with Uday and Anand was testimony to a company that treats their staff well and I find that most impressive.
