The journey to the island is long. It started with a 10-hour flight from LHR, followed by a 45-minute domestic flight, and then a speedboat transfer. Although we were told the speedboat ride would take 10–15 minutes, it ended up being closer to 30 minutes. When transferring at Malé for the domestic flight, you have to go through security again. This meant my purchases from duty free LHR had to be thrown out. Make sure you pack them into your checked luggage when you arrive in Malé. This isn’t the airport’s fault, but it’s definitely something to be aware of. Despite the length of travel, our journey went smoothly, and we were thankful for that! The island is stunning, with breathtaking natural beauty. The beaches are white, though some areas have coral, so beach shoes might be helpful if you have sensitive feet. For me, it wasn’t an issue. The water was so warm! Like bath water! We had initially worried about the weather since the app predicted constant rain during our stay. Thankfully, this turned out to be wrong. It did rain, but only in short bursts, and it brightened up fairly quickly afterward. Our ocean-view villa was beautiful! The rooms were spacious, and the bathrooms even more so. The villa came with two loungers on the beach, offering an amazing view of the atoll. The food, unfortunately, was a major disappointment. Reviews we had read beforehand were accurate, buffet options were poor, and we found ourselves eating mostly bread rolls for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The desserts were absolutely horrific. Honestly, who thought it was a good idea to serve custard-based desserts dyed neon colors? I felt like I was eating a rave. At my age, I just want something simple and edible, not a dessert that looks like it needs its own DJ set!!! The food all seemed to have been cut with the same knife, how does that even happen? The cake tasted like garlic, and the watermelon somehow tasted like pickled onion. My partner, who is by no means a fussy eater, actually spat these things out, which says a lot. By the end of the trip, we were fed up. Drink service during dinner was also slow. Staff, who were all very kind and attentive, would take our drink order promptly, but drinks wouldn’t arrive until we were nearly finished eating. The staff, whether at the bar, reception, or restaurant, were all lovely and helpful, which we really appreciated. WiFi was awful, but that wasn’t much of an issue as we didn’t really need it during our stay. The mosquitoes here are no joke. I never usually get bitten anywhere, but even with two different types of mosquito repellent, they still managed to get me. My partner, who’s a magnet for them anyway, counted 67 bites at one point! And this was with a plugin mosquito repellent in the room and every precaution taken. I think this resort has so much potential, but the food and restaurant experience really let it down. Honestly, if they increased the price slightly and made massive improvements to the dining
