At the price point I was expecting it to be sketchy, but Travel Inn set a new bar for sketch. When I arrived at 11pm to check in, I was directed to a bullet-proof wicket where I had to stuff my ID and papers through a slot. That was the first red flag. Obviously this motel is used for a lot of shady business, as I had to sign a fairly extensive waiver at check-in. It was clear that the guy on duty was used to dealing with shenanigans; there was a lot grilling about who would be in the room and what I would be doing. After much photocopying of IDs and establishing of paper trail, I was given my room key. On the way to my room I passed the pool area, which had a sign saying WARNING - POOL CLOSED. This sign was fairly unnecessary as the pool was covered and there was some kind of brown and yellow growth all over the cover. Arriving at my room I immediately noticed that the door had clearly been forced open numerous times in the past; the frame was dented and chipped around the latch. The inside of the door had a sign saying ”FOR YOUR PROTECTION - When in room, engage deadbolt and security latch”. Good advice I’m sure, but the security latch had been broken off. The room. Stains everywhere, holes in walls/doors, burn marks on the tub, sink wouldn’t drain. There was one bar of soap, but no shampoo or even a cup in the bathroom. When I went to get into the bed, I found there was no top sheet. At that point staff had left for the night, so I had to sleep directly under the horrible stained bedspread. There was a pleasant steady white noise from the adjacent highway traffic, so I was expecting at least an undisturbed sleep, but I soon discovered there were also train tracks nearby and the diesel horn blasts ensured regular awakenings. There was a general uneasiness throughout the night due to the fact that every person I could hear shuffling past my door seemed to pause outside before shuffling on. At 6am I couldn’t stay in that disgusting bed any longer, so I got up and got the hell out of there. Would not recommend.
