SALT LAKE CITY — It’s hard to miss the campaign signs littered along intersections and some might be tempted to take one down, especially if the sign promotes someone you don’t like. But Orem Police warned that you can face charges for stealing campaign signs.
Orem Police Department was tipped off about a man stealing campaign signs, leading police to search the man’s property using a search warrant. Police proceeded to find several signs on the property.
Police said the man will face multiple charges of theft for taking the campaign signs.
“Removing a sign is a class B misdemeanor,” Utah County Clerk Aaron Davidson said. “We would basically refer that out to the police that would have the jurisdiction over that sign.”
Stealing or vandalizing a sign also falls under Utah’s Election Law with penalties that include losing the right to vote.
