🌍 Astana hosted a citywide case championship dedicated to the launch of the global campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence”, where students raised awareness of gender-based violence and offered practical solutions to address it. Through innovative approaches and practical solutions, the students demonstrated critical thinking and creativity in tackling cases developed by UN agencies. The championship aimed to raise awareness about the impact of gender-based violence on society and empower young people to contribute to its resolution. Youth, as agents of change, play a pivotal role in building safer and more equitable communities. This championship highlighted their potential to challenge norms, propose bold solutions, and drive meaningful change. 📅 The #16Days campaign runs from November 25 to December 10, promoting global solidarity to eliminate gender-based violence. Today, the UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub and UNDP Kazakhstan hosted a special session on "Tackling serious environmental offences through criminal law and building national enforcement capacity – challenges and opportunities." 📌 The session was held as part of the 9th Expert Forum on Criminal Justice for Central Asia, organized by the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, ODIHR/OSCE, UN agencies, and NGOs, and is currently taking place in Astana. 💬 During the session, UNDP experts discussed the urgent need for legal responses to the triple planetary crisis—climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss—and its impact on human rights. Participants from Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries examined the growing trend toward criminalizing environmental offenses and emphasized the importance of capacity building for judicial and law enforcement professionals to strengthen enforcement in line with international standards of environmental justice. 🤝 The event underscored the increasing importance of collaboration and the implementation of effective legal mechanisms to combat environmental crimes and ensure accountability, aiming to support sustainable development.
