The Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at the American University of Beirut is a regional hub that bridges academia and activism in the MENA region. Since 2012, the Asfari Institute has provided resources, knowledge, and spaces for civil society actors, scholars, students, practitioners, as well as policymakers to connect and collaborate on issues related to social movements and activism, citizenship, with a strong emphasis on the universality of human rights, gender equality, intersectionality, and social justice.

The Asfari Foundation is thrilled to invite you to an enriching learning journey with the Certificate in Influencing and Political Acumen (CIPA)! In collaboration with the Asfari Institute for Citizenship and Civil Society (AUB) and the London School of Economics (LSE)— this program is designed to strengthen civil society’s ability to influence, advocate, and drive transformative change across the region. Who is it for? This year, we’re expanding to support 20 organisations from Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, and Tunisia! We invite two participants per organisation—the head of the organisation and a colleague from middle management (such as a deputy, communications expert, or programme lead). Programme details: Start Date: Mid-March 2025 Format: Online (with Arabic translation/subtitles when possible) Residential Module: 4 days in July 2025 (dates & location TBC) Duration: 6 months Applications are competitive!
